I keep looking at the tort and thinking the same thing, I need to pony up for the spitfire. I also love the mint guard look though. Maybe I’ll switch back and forth.
I have a Rexter finished CFM, it’s slightly greener than yours, I too am torn between tort and mint and tend to switch between the two when I fancy a change.

Don’t forget Paolo_Ray is doing great work with tort guards viewtopic.php?f=6&t=119501

He has a few in stock at the moment http://www.lavaguards.com, that’s my CFM in the gallery.
I'll second Paulo_Ray's Lavaguards. Absolutely stunning in the flesh and a chunk cheaper than a Spitfire (and without the long wait time). 10/10 would recommend

That thing is absolutely killer. Looks to be in great shape, which is nice because the Thin Skin finish can wear and chip pretty easily. Congratulations!

Thank you, and thanks for the tip on lava guards I hadn't heard about them. I'm going to put the mint back on tonight and see if I possibly can solve the loose wire issue. The tort on it now is not horrible but I am going to do it right. I love tort and I love CFM in part because I think it is one of the best with tort. Okay, I'll stop writing tort now. :)

That is one beautiful Jazzmaster! I agree that high quality tort and CFM is a perfect combination. I can't wait to see what you end up with.

I had a WD tort pickguard on my CFM Jaguar for a while, which I think is one of the better looking "cheap" torts out there, but I still wasn't entirely sold on it. It has a mint guard on it right now and sometimes I love it, sometimes I think about changing it.

I’ve never seen one in person, but from pics/videos i love the look of charcoal frost metallic offsets… and I’m pretty well convinced it’s the same color as my car…

Appears bluish in some pics, more grey in others.

Mint be damned. Tort looks best on CFM.

More about me, me, me. :) I just thought I would update. I got the guitar back with a mastery installed. I put the mint guard back on until I can get spitfire for it. I have to say, it’s great. I have never had a Jazzmaster, and only one other solid body, that was this resonant. I can get the kind of feedback I want type of resonance. Very happy. I think I’m done. ;D

I finally received my spitfire tort and love it. It’s exactly what I wanted. I also had black bobbin Lollar pickups installed as well as the 280k pots and paper in oil capacitor that black bobbin suggests. I love the look and sound. I’ve only had it back for two days but I can say I love these pickups. They’re a big improvement over stock. I also can tell what the 280k pots do to the sound and it’s nothing but good. I can use the bridge pickup now and nothing has been lost on the middle and neck positions. I was afraid I would lose to much treble but there is nothing but good treble on tap now. I’m very happy with the investment and happy that I followed through with my plans to upgrade the guitar. I usually hesitate to put the money into a guitar to complete what I want out of it. Anyway, project done and I’m very happy.
