Re: New Harmony Offset?! (Not a cheap one either)..
I have not had the pleasure of trying any of these new fangled harmony guitars yet. I love that they're MIA and priced very competitively.
I have played a vintage wildcat or two, and they are very solid guitars. I can only imagine these are even better!
The red one all the way. It's adorable that they come in red, blue and black like OG Chuck Taylors (no white).

If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.

The Harmony Silhouette's offset-ness is no more than a Stratocaster or Duo-Sonic so this thread should be over in the Non-Offset board.
I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

yeah, as per the original silhouette (and smaller bobkat), the offset-ness is an eye trick... they look amazing though. always nice to see a brand revival where they clearly hired an actual designer.
looks like they're going to be doing some amps too– the "series six" stuff look interesting.

But they are HINOs (Harmonys in name only). A billionaire in Singapore bought the name from Cort (or whatever the parent company is really called) for his son. Same company that picked up Sonar/Cakewalk from Gibson.

The father's company is an agribusiness conglomerate that has been charged with ethical problems (like deforestation, etc.)

Harmony was a dead brand. Any new Harmony guitars would be Harmony in name only. In fact, in their original heyday, there was a lot of cross branding between them and Danelectro/Silvertone, meaning it can be said that they were only ever Harmony in name only.jthomas wrote: ↑Fri Jul 30, 2021 3:14 pmBut they are HINOs (Harmonys in name only). Taking it a step further. Really, just about all major guitar brands have gone through so much displacement, retooling, and changes in ownership that they are Fender in name only, or Gibson in name only. The only real exception possibly being Martin who are family owned and in the same factory in Nazareth, PA as ever.
This group Band Lab seems to be on quite the buying spree. While the abuses by the Company the father is CEO of are pretty bad, I don't see how this brand group run by the son is under the control of or enriches Wilmar.
This version of Harmony is US based and must follow US labor laws (which, admittedly aren't the best) and environmental regulations (again, not stellar). I have a pretty sensitive ethical nose, but this doesn't fail the smell test for me personally.
These have that super "clean" aesthetic that the youths are so fond of. I was waiting for a non-boutique maker to bring our affection for muted tones, minimalism, and contrast to mass production.
If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.

The brands of Band Lab. To which I ask, "When the fuck did they buy Heritage?"

Yeah, I don't think it's a bad thing to have more MIA guitar options. Also I don't really buy the environmental arguments, guitars are such a luxury good, especially when you have more than 1, that the only way to be environmentally ethical is to buy used or not at all. BTW I think that is a noble decision to consume less or buy used.
