Heh, I don't think I had them out long enough before I put them in my Squier CV '60s Jazzmaster to notice. FWIW, before swapping out the stock pickups for my Joe Barden JM pickups, I did have a play with the stock pickups and they sounded fine to me.
I'll have to fire up my Squier CV '60s Jazzmaster that I moved the stock Trad '60s JM pickups into tomorrow and see if there is any change from my initial impressions.

Depending on the model they're using JM pickups of the regular construction. I've not had one in hand to confirm, but apparently a number of them are using US measurements for pickguards, routing, etc.

Re: NGD - Fender Japan Traditional '60s Jazzmaster
Sorry for the late follow-up - I spent time with my Squier CV '60s JM with the Trad '60s JM pickups. They sound great! So much so that I decided to put them back into the Trad '60s JM. Everything is stock now on the Trad '60s JM except for the Spitfire pickguard.
I put the Joe Barden Two/Tone Jazzmaster pickups that I had in the Trad '60s JM in the Squier CV '60s. The Squier CV '60s JM looks better with the black covered pickups, knobs, and switch tip. I put my Squier J Mascis SIgnature JM anodized gold pickguard on it, too. If I can hunt down some barrel knobs with the Volume knob being S1 capable, I'll go for the full '58 JM look.

Messed around a bit with one of these today. The neck has serious shoulders to it. Felt very un-JM-like.

Thank you for this very important info! I thought about these guitars for a while but this makes it a no go for me.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Sat Oct 09, 2021 7:44 pmMessed around a bit with one of these today. The neck has serious shoulders to it. Felt very un-JM-like.

Yup, that's why they designate the neck as a "U" shape. While not as chunky, I find it similar in shape to my U-shaped Telecaster necks (i.e., the shoulders), which is fine with me. YMMV
Of course, the Fender Japan Heritage '60s Jazzmaster in transparent blonde with the mid-'60s C shaped neck is my latest siren call...must...resist...
