I think it will be called the "American Vintage 2 Electric Boogaloo" series, because you gotta beat the streets before the streets beat you.
But that's all I know, but I thought it should have its own thread rather than be buried in the end of the probably won't be missed a lot American Originals thread.

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

I agree. One thing's for sure, people will find fault with absolutely anything. It could be a perfect replica apart from one screw will turn clockwise instead of counter and it'll be dismissed as utter garbage and rejected as a total failure.
I, for one, am excited by the leak and look forward to more interesting colours coming out.

Call it what they want. If they make is a good as early avri 62 offsets, they'll have a hit for sure.
They should consider doing a Mustang and a shortscale bass too this time. I doubt that they can do it as good as their original run though.

Yeah, the idea of a Lake Placid Blue Jazzmaster is pretty exciting.
I have two Jazzmasters, though. I could "use" a Jaguar, I guess. But there's no mention of them.
Sometimes I get skeptical that these things are actually "leaked" because what else would Fender really want other than us discussing their product publicly?

In fairness, someone has already pointed out that the leaked photo has a pre-CBS headstock despite finally having correctly-sized blocks. That's pretty annoying and completely avoidable. They got so close.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 9:23 amI agree. One thing's for sure, people will find fault with absolutely anything. Personally, I am on the cusp of building my dream Jazzmaster (which I should really make a thread for), so it's unfortunate timing. LPB B&B is pretty much my dream JM....the only way it could be better would be if they offered it in the '99 AVRI shade of Sherwood with matching headstock.
If they made that, I think I'd be compelled to sell some guitars and buy one. I'm still waiting to see if the LPB has a matching headstock, which a lot of AVRIs/AV65/AOs lacked, so I'm not making any assumptions.
I will, however, lose my shit when Wildwood inevitably commissions some Thin Skin type variants. I can guarantee they'd correct the headstock and make sure it's matching as well.
I'm lucky to be in the opposite position from Larry...I'm set for Jags but only have one (currently disassembled) JM. Given how well my AV65 played, I have confidence that these AVII models will be great guitars. It just remains to be seen whether they fix the headstock and/or offer matching ones.

The headstock thing is strange. I don’t care if it’s the big CBS one or not, but I can’t see why they will put that big headstock on Stratocasters and Telecaster Deluxes, but not on any offsets models.
They’re obviously not adverse to using it elsewhere.

Apparently the 66 Jazz Bass has binding and dots, rather than blocks. Odd for a 66, no?

Will someone link to this? I thought I had, but it was bad information.

The headstock is correct for '66, is it not? The wikipedia page for the Jazzmaster says so:
"The headstock remained unchanged from 1958 to 1967. In mid-1967, the headstock was changed from the original Jazzmaster shape to the same, larger "CBS" style headstock that was used on the Stratocaster".
This page says the same thing ("Mid 1967: Peghead shape enlarged."): https://offset.guitars/the-history/
Also, it's awesome news that these JMs have matching headstocks!

It's normal for an early '66. Here's a picture of one (from the Fender Bass book):BoringPostcards wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 11:03 amApparently the 66 Jazz Bass has binding and dots, rather than blocks. Odd for a 66, no?

The blocks came in partway through 1966, I believe. I used to have a February '66 Jaguar with dots (and binding, of course).
I do think it's a missed opportunity if they don't use the big headstock and F-stamped tuners, both of which are hallmarks of the 'blocks era' (and both things Fender are happy to use on the 70s reissue Teles/Strats), unless we're seeing early prototypes and it's fixed for the production run.
In doing a quick search, all of the '66 JMs with blocks I found had the bigger headstock. This March '66 JM still has dots but already has the big headstock, so it was definitely already in use by early '66.

Looks that way to me too with a Google image search.Zeus wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 1:03 pmThe blocks came in partway through 1966, I believe. I used to have a February '66 Jaguar with dots (and binding, of course).

Got to say, though, that I think the CBS headstock is f'ugly as sin, so this reissue looks like a bit of a 'best of both worlds' to me. But then I own an American Original (which is the only guitar I've ever owned that I've fallen for in the long term), and couldn't give a shit about the non-vintage radius and frets, both of which I also see as welcome small improvements over a less-than-perfect original design.
