This is just the definition of gatekeeping. Let people enjoy the shit that they enjoy.
I don't think expressing our opinions of a guitar on a guitar forum is gatekeeping. No-one is saying he can't/shouldn't have a custom starcaster. I'm not a fan of Blink but I've liked both his previous sig guitars. In principle I like this one too, and I'm not bothered if other people don't. The worst thing about this is his piss poor sticker job in that first pic :P

You say gatekeeping as if it's always a bad thing. If we'd all done a better job of gatekeeping we'd still be able to buy 60's Jazzmasters for <$2000.

Jus' sayin' :D

These'll be about as popular as every other Starcaster (not very).

I feel like we're saying the same things with these bullet points, that is, that the fender CS doesn't have the facilities to make a 70's spec starcaster right now. That's all.

The entire proposition is contingent on the original molding dies not having been lost or sold for scrap in the lean and turbulent years of the 80s. While the new Asian silhouette isn't bad (I'm a huge fan of the holeless contemporary model), it is not close enough to the OG for me consider any guitar made with it a true reissue. They changed it a lot. Some of these changes may have been "improvements" but I'll reckon most were designed to cut down on the failure rate for large scale production. The clearest instance of this IMO are the f-holes (routed I know).

Do we "need" new starcasters though? Any reissue fender does will be compromised is some way or another. How many years did it take to get non-vintage-line offset reissues that weren't deeply wrong in some respect or another. For people likely born around the same years these designs were initially made, they sure love to "fix" them for us.

As for the wood supplier. Well, I don't work for FMIC and it's hard to prove a negative. However, I have no reason to believe they do have such a supply.
Oh I agree that they will probably never do a proper reissue but I surely think they can. If a smaller company like BILT can crank out true to stock Starcasters, bridge and all; the multi million dollar FMIC sure should be able to.
They won’t though, in big parts for the reasons you described.

Oh, I dunno, BiLT seem to only able to make guitars that look like Fenders that ate too many donuts.

Yeah I kinda agree; but the Volare doesn't look obese to me..

I think it's not helped by the F-hole shape looking kinda 'chubby' - for lack of a better term.

I want to love how their guitars look, but the F hole shape and placement (and often curves/proportions) strike a weird chord with me.

This thread finally motivated me to find out if it’s “duh long” or “dee lanzh”. I don’t move in circles where anybody says (or knows, generally) his name.

Apparently it’s “duh long”. I kinda like the Starcaster except for the inlays. Put a better knob on it, too.

:w00t:

That’s like the main reason I can’t get into BILT, they all look like fat versions of the fenders they imitate. Like all the contours that made the fender version look good BILT managed to make look obese.

Honestly, if I wanted an offset semi hollow I'd just go for a Warmoth Mooncaster build; cheaper than a Bilt (and WAY cheaper than an original), more customizable than a current Fender/Squier model and frankly, it just looks better if you ask me:

I'd get one with a wraparound bridge though...
