New Squier "Sonic" series

Post by Futuron » Mon Feb 13, 2023 3:25 am

Must be coming soon. Anyone got any more info? What I'm seeing looks either Bullet (probably) or Affinity level, likely replacing that line. Indonesian. Laurel & Poplar.

There's a Mustang, Mustang HH, Precision bass, Bronco bass, Esquire, Telecaster, Stratocaster (L&R), Stratocaster HT, Stratocaster HSS.

Colours are black, 2-colour sunburst, tahitian coral, ultraviolet, california blue, torino red, flash pink, arctic white, butterscotch blonde.

Only pics & specs I can find are Strats.

affinities got renewed a while ago, so I assume its a bullet replacement line, and i assume the price will get mfin hiked. 2 different mustangs and an esquire are cool tho

I always find hard tail Mustangs amusing. Aside from the angled bridge pickup, that's a Duo-Sonic.

It's been clear for a while that FMIC decided that anything with a Mustang body is a Mustang, and the term "Duo-Sonic" will only be used for the non-offset, pre-CBS Duo-Sonic shape.

It bugged me for a while, but at least they're being consistent. In fairness, their customers get confused enough by Offsets that offering two different shapes called the Duo-Sonic and Duo-Sonic II would be a bad move. People know the Mustang shape, so calling all bridge configurations "Mustang" keeps it simple.

If they hadn't resurrected the original Duo-Sonic shape, there would be a better argument against this, but I think in 2023, it's better to name guitars by shape than by hardware configuration.

Their is some irony in there being a "Sonic" hardtail Mustang now, I'll admit that.

Wow! These are nice.
Cool to see the mustangs with maple fretboard's. The pink is a bit too hot for me though.
Love the Bronco bass and it looks like they are finally putting better-quality tuners on them. Oh, and they have a standard Pbass bridge now.

At least they finally upgraded the horrible tuners on the Bronco.

I could be wrong about the non-contours. Could just be the photography and photoshop touch-ups.

I've seen at least 2 options for each offset model

In addition to pics above:
Bronco also in white, and black.
HH Mustang also in California blue.
SS Mustang also in Torino red.

Pickups are ceramic. Prices are slightly higher than existing Bullet Mustangs, as to be expected.
