I halfheartedly tried for a couple of different vintage Mustangs with no luck...

But I figured I'd be fine with a Vintera. It has the vintage specs that I like (7.25'' radius and vintage frets). I love the Vintera Jaguar I have...so, I wasn't worried at all about getting one. My plan was to refinish it in Dakota Red (nitro) with competition stripes.

But I love the Lake Placid Blue! So who knows?

I bought a blemished guitar from GC. You can see the blemishes in the photos. Some cracking on the high E tuning peg and the neck is mismatched (that's not a shadow). $150 off of what they are going for new. The fretboard is pretty pale, but I'm sure some oil will darken it up a little

and it plays and sounds great.

I think that's great.

Go for the red refin! I think it would work nicely with the Pau Ferro fretboard

If you go for a competition finish, you should really paint the headstock, shouldn't you?

I remember playing this model at a Long & McQuade a few years ago and really liking it.

It's a beaut, Jake! Don't paint it though...it's lake placid blue!

I think the stock blue finish is gorgeous, but that fretboard is so light and reddish that I can't help but think that it'd really suit your original plan of Dakota Red.

I think the red PF boards are a great look for warm colours especially. I don't harbor any bias against PF as a guitar wood (fretboard or otherwise), I just like the way they can pick up on warm tones elsewhere on a guitar.

How does the trem work?

The Allen key included did not fit the nut on the side. I used a slightly bigger one and got the nut out and put the trem arm in and tightened it. But it doesn't work. Is there a lock on it somewhere?

It is very nice. Almost greenish in some light.

No lock on mine. The cigar/sausage could have been screwed right down, but from the photos it doesn’t look like it. Is the trem arm inserted too far so that it’s hitting the baseplate? It should only go into the cigar. If you take the arm back out, you should be able to move the cigar with a bit of pressure from your hand (like you can move a floating strat bridge).

Post some close ups of the trem from a couple of angles if you get no joy.

Really nice Mustang! If it bothers you, I'd bet that you could darken the lighter portion of the neck just by using the "suntan" method. A "no cost" technique!

I guess this is the culprit...no springs?

Strange. Looks like it has the "Dynamic Stoptail". I.e., it's a hardtail.
