Nice! I've been tempted by those several times, and if they would just come out with a Candy Apple Red competition version, I would be handing over my money instantly. I really dig that these have a) contours, and b) wider nut widths. My Squier Mustang Bass has neither, and I think about the lack of those two features every single time I play it.
Congrats on the new bass!

I need to set up an Imgur account or something similar. I let my Fotki site die when I realized I wasn't posting to any BBS any longer...Who knew?

It does make a difference. My last Mustang Bass was one of the Mexican Performer series with the P/J pickups, and the Vintera feels and sounds much better, IMO.

Pictures please! I’m not actively looking for a new bass, but a compstang bass… that would tempt me.

Really nice instrument man. I’d no idea the Vintera 2 mustang basses had a wider nut width either. I’ve been looking to pick up a mustang bass recently, so a good nugget of info for me there

Absolutely wonderful bass, I love mine as well. I got it not long after they came out from someone who had buyer's remorse and it quickly became my favorite bass I've ever owned. Throw a set of flats and a foam mute on it and it does a great Motown Precision bass impression. Conversely, throw a set of roundwounds on it and it gets bright and aggressive in the best way.
The only downside (for me)--I much prefer the rest/bar to be above the strings (thumb rest) vs. where they have it from the factory. Unfortunately, in the area where you would typically mount the rest above the strings, there is a hole in the body--I think part of the mounting system for the CNC machine. If you ever want to move the rest, you'll need a longer screw or to fill in that hole.

OK, so the GAS got to me, and one of these came in the mail to me today. One thing I immediately noticed was the noise from the pickups (my house is a good litmus test for this). Unlike the Squier version, this version has non-RWRP pickups

This is a real missed opportunity, because the pickups sound very good. I'm going to take it apart tomorrow and reverse the magnet polarity on one of the pickups and change the wire orientation on it. I'm pretty sure that's all it needs, but I'll report back in case there's some unforeseen hurdle with that.

Just as a follow-up to my last post, I reversed the magnetic polarity of the polepieces with some neodymium magnets and swapped the wires on one of the two coils. As soon as I plugged it in, it was no longer buzzing like crazy! I also went in with shielded the cavities/pickguard so it's also silent when my hands aren't on the strings. Honestly, I don't understand how even period accuracy would make Fender make such a dumb choice with the pickups. You've got two independent coils, so just wire them RWRP! There's no downside to doing it this way.
