Dave, it looks absolutely fantastic.  These last two pics look more like I'd expect Seafoam Green to look.  You should be really proud of this one.

Thanks, I have two digi cams but they are both pretty junky, that may be part of the problem.

I like the "new" seafoam green, as opposed to the aged 40 years in nitro, on this.  Just what I wanted.  Although the aged seafoam's are damn cool!

Did a whole setup, intonation, raised the low string side of the bridge and lowered the pups, now it is where I really thought it should be and I love it!!!

Nice VI!!!  Long live the custom colors!  I'm working on a Burgundy Mist tele right now....

...forgive me if this has been covered before(I'm on way too many instrument related message boards)...but was there a reason to go with strat pickups vs Jag pickups?  Did the neck & body both come from Tommy?

...again - a really excellent job there.

because the only VI USA CG could copy was a '62 first generation body and neck...

they have those oddball chrome rings with "strat-like" pickups mounted in them

it would have been next to impossible to get those copied

or at least it would have cost a LOAD of cash
(i stubbornly tried... one machinist was talking $100/ring... who knows what the pickups would have cost!!)

the Strat routs were the only logical choice, given what we had...

i would have preferred that the pups mounted to the pickguard, like strat pups normally do...
but i think it looks cool

they're SUPPOSED to offer the 4switch/jag pup routs on the body soon

i may have to place an order to light a fire under 'em
but money has become an even bigger issue for me lately

Mike took his MIJ pickguard and used it as a template to make the jag pickup routs himself
and then i had a custom JazzmasterVI pickguard made and used it as a template to rout for those pickups...

so if you couldn't wait on USA CG to work the bugs out of the program, you could always do it yourself...

Tony Dudzik at www.pickguardian.com has a bunch of VI options nowadays!
:)
in fact, i asked him to make one with pickups mounting to the guard, strat style...
it ain't so pretty, but i love this thing:

Neck and body, and pickguard came from Tommy.

To tell you the truth, I went with Alfred's list, and he said texas specials were nice.  I have never even played a VI before mine arrived, all paid for, so there was some anxiety about whether I would even like it!!!  But I do, so all is good.  I knew some things were just not going to happen vintage correct, so I accepted early on that this would be cobbled together, and each one that someone makes would be truly unique, an aspect I really like about these projects.

there should be a footnote in that "list" thread encouraging people to try other pickup sets

i'd love to try something hotter
and some vintage noiseless
like i've mentioned before... more lace sensors...
i dunno
anything and everything
more Jazzmaster pups and DEFINITELY everything Jaguar available...

there a lot more qualified people that have also experimented with these things
they just don't post as often

I wonder if Mr. Novak could work up a few sets of true to vintage VI pickups...

I would like to pursue a VI project but I got three in the que right now with various parts already puchased in front of me here so it'll be a while before I get the time/money to get to the VI project....

Hi guys. I'm new to the list, but not to offsets. I have a JM custom shop body I've rebuilt from parts, a daphne blue JM I put together, 2 bodies (one a CIJ burst and a second is a US AVRI Ice blue metallic) and I'm currently working on a JM in Sherwood Green Metallic.
Now to the questions at hand. I'm collecting info in hopes of putting together a BASS VI like Dave's. From what I gather, the hard parts to come by are the control plates and bridge. What is the status on these? From my research I see that the VI with the pickup rings had a 3 switch plate, and the VI with the Jaguar body mounted pups had 4 switches. Any luck on finding these parts? I hear the bridge is next to impossible to come by too. I've got a wriing diagram, but it's for a 4 switch VI, so unless I can find a 4 switch control plate, it looks like it's going to be a hybrid, Jag pups and a 3 switch plate. I'm gonna assume for now, I just elim switch 4 and wire 3 like 4 would have been. Anyway, any help for a new VI project is appreciated.
