"Parting is such sweet sorrow...."

Post by zhivago » Wed Jan 03, 2007 5:18 am

I just landed a very cheap MIJ Fender Jaguar off a friend that didn't want it...he's switched to Teles...even though I'm pretty broke, it was a deal too good to pass up...

so now I got a dilemma...should I keep the guitar....or part it out and sell it?

it would bring me more money that I could pump into my '61 project....

I don't really need a Jaguar at the moment, to be honest, and if I was gonna get one, I'd get a vintage one....so my practical mind says "part it out, put the cash towards the '61 project"

the romantic in me says, "give this unwanted Jag a good home"

I'll probably end up parting it out.....just thought I'd share.....

*heartless*

Why should the option be to part it? Not opposing the idea, just curious. Why can't you just sell it whole? Is there no room for profit over what you paid?

What year is it?

Jags don't sell well here in the UK...if I part it out, I'd probably make more...I guess it's all about maximising profit....I need to gather cash for the '61 JM...otherwise the project will be stuck  :-\

I think it's a 90s one...but there is a possibility it might be an 80s one too...I'll find out this weekend when I go and pick it up....it's Vintage White colour....exactly like the one I used to own (mine was an 80s one for sure)

I got a soft spot for these guitars....so I'm kinda afraid I won't be able to bring myself to parting out or even re-selling!  :o

Well .. maybe it could be your backup until the second '61 is finished?

That wouldn't speed up the '61 now but it would cover you until it's eventually done .. and you could sell it to fund the last few steps of the project so you'd only be backup-less for the minimum amount of time.

Would you really get much more for a CIJ Jag over here by parting it out?

hmmm...I was thinking I could get a bit more on ebay or something...

your point about selling it off in the last stages of the '61 makes loads of sense though...I never thought of it like that....and I could totally use the Jag as is for a backup at gigs.....

you guys are definitely making sense...I guess it was that Jag's destiny to fall in my lap...I should take care of it....and having a Jag as a backup is pretty cool.

okies, I'm persuaded...the Jag stays for backup purposes :)

I will need to change that red-ish pickguard on it for a vintage one at some point though...I haven't seen the guitar for quite a while, but from what I remember, the pickguard was yucky :)

a different guitar in your hands once in a while can be inspiring.. I think it'll be nice to have around for as long as you feel you need it

I LOVE MIJ Jaguars! Unless you get to the point where you absolutely need the cash, I'd try to hold on to it. It's is really nice to have for recording purposes too. A Jaguar doubling/ complimenting a Jazzmaster sounds amazing. I can't wait to see some photos of it!

well, it's coming to me so cheap, it'll be easier to try and keep a hold of permanently...I'll post pics once I get it...I'll take it completely apart and document it all...I wanna do a small piece on it :)
