Dead Parts....

Post by Pumpkin » Thu Feb 01, 2007 11:28 pm

....is what my Mustang neck pup is >:(

I was changing PG's and it was fine after the "tap test" then halfway through tuning it died, i put the orig bridge pup in the neck cause i don't use it.
I never liked this pickup much anyway as i think 6.5k is too low output, much prefer 8k-11k.Surprisingly the bridge pup in the neck sounds better and its kinda okay.
I'm beginning to think what else can go wrong....first it was the tuners ( i broke 'em) which i replaced today and it so good to tune properly, then its a pup that dies. What next? maybe the finish will fall of mysteriously! :o
But seriously,i put 500k pots, the orig .47 cap with Dimarzio 218 in it and it sounds really nice now.
This guitars sound is neat and besides the fact that it needs a refret soon its once again totaly reliable (i hope :()

It's a shame about the troubles, but guitars go that way sometimes. I hope it becomes reliable soon!

Check (meter) the pickup.  You might have compressed or otherwise compromised the leads.  I had that happen to a Warmoth Tele Partsocaster once.  Neck pickup just died after installation and a successful tap test.  The pickup was fine after I removed it, but I didn't bother to check, figuring I'd goofed it, until a second pickup also went out post-install.  Turned out that the neck cavity was too tight and it pinched off the leads somehow.  Both pickups were fine, I just ended up with an Esquire!
Destiny's in her evening gown; you're always running late.
You tell her she looks wonderful but she'll just have to wait.

I was goin' to get a multi meter today actually so yea,I'll tests it.
What i actually think happened is one of the poll pieces moved up to much(i remember knocking one with a screwdriver) essentially ripping a inner coil wire. With new pups you can move the magnets up and down no problem as they're smooth but old 60s pups aren't so smooth and it can break the wires easily.
It's not throw away dead cause i was reading on the net that you can get it rewound with the original wire!
I'd hate to think what it would cost to unwind, repair and rewind again! It's worth saving though...its a 65.
It won't be happening anytime soon though as i just started up a JAZZMASTER FUND,donations welcome :D
Decided to cancel all other projects etc for a AV....they can wait, jazzmasters can't. ::)
