Having installed mutes in muteless Jaguars (and Jazzmasters) I've been pleased by the availability of mute parts, with the mysterious exception of the mute spring.  Why, if all the other parts are available, would the mute spring be withheld from the aftermarket?  It struck me that MAYBE they are available but called something else.  With that in mind I ordered a "Fender intonation spring for Tele and basses" from guitar-parts.com.  (http://www.guitar-parts.com/content/est ... oduct=1133)

I'm pretty sure this is the same spring as used in the Jaguar mute.  It's the right length (1") and it fits in the spare mute plunger I've got.  I haven't taken apart my AVRI Jaguar to confirm it's the same, but it would definitely work.

Also looks very similar to the springs inside drum lugs. Your local drumstore will have several enormous freezer bags full of these. These bags constantly sprout new holes so the springs can all fall and bounce EVERYWHERE. They just love it.

The drum guys hate it, and can probably be talked out of the springs pretty cheap.

So did that intonation spring work out well ? I'm on the lookout for a spring to use with the mute on my jag...
