Hi all,
I have the chance to buy a Fender Electric XII for about €2000. Would you consider this a decent price? This particular ones has quite some wear and tear, the cap of the tone knob is missing and the switch has been replaced (but the original switch is included). So far I've only seen minty XIIs on Ebay, so I have idea what a more abused one will go for.

In my opinion, that is quite a bit for an XII in that condition.

Not sure about the European market, but over here, I'd expect that to sell for less than $1500 and that might be generous, unless it was absolutely brilliant sounding/playing (or was owned by Jimmy Page or Pete Townshend!).

Thanks for your replies. I had a feeling it was a bit much. For a second I thought it might have been interesting as an investment or something, but then again I'd hate to buy guitar gear mainly to let it increase in value. My finances aren't flourishing either, so I guess I'll pass on this one. Oh, I forgot to mention it doesn't have the original case

I've seen the ad for this particular XII as well, and the seller's original asking price for his XII is EUR 2650,- (= ca. US $3543,-), which seems to me a bit on the optimistic side for a guitar in that condition...
There's b.t.w. another sunburst Electric XII - which looks to be in mint condition if the pics are to be believed - for sale on the same Dutch website, however the seller of that one is asking EUR 3500,- (= ca. US $ 4680,-) for his guitar, and I wish him good luck in trying to find a buyer for his XII for that price...

I think you can still get decent condition original finish sunburst XIIs from the States in the low $2000s .. I just bought one myself, and I've seen a couple others go on ebay in that range. Obviously refins should be even cheaper. For $3500 you'd really expect to be buying a custom colour XII in good condition.

I concur with the low $2000 range in the US. I recently got one in very good condition, and fabulous playability for just over $2300.

Just got a fabulous condition sunburst '66 XII stamped "special" with case for $2500 and a Lake Placid Blue matching headstock '65 for $3100. Both last year but prices are on the rise....
sorry I stand corrected.... the LPB XII was $3100.

Do you happen to have any photos of it. Though not normally my favorite color, I
do really like LPB on XIIs.
