Bring the thread back from a nap.

Any news on if there will be another issue (colour) release of the Johnny marr Jaguar? Before I go and buy a white or KO?

Rumor is actually they’re getting discontinued.

I sent an email to Fender and the reply back was that there are no plans on any additional colours, but that "Currently, Olympic White and Metallic KO are still in production"

Where did you see this? I’ve been trying to track down a Sherwood green or lpb one for a while. Resisting the urge to but Olympic white or KO

I have been keeping an eye out for new colours. I previously had a black one but regret selling it. Anyone else noticed Mar Jags seem to be hard to come by second hand also at the moment?

Some musings:

If this is true, it seems the Jag will be facing even more difficult times...
It was neither included for the new American Professional II series due to bad sales.
Where actually it could and should have revived and attract new and younger players.

To me, it seems the Jag is 'plagued' with a "original specs fetish" and might have an quality image problem.
The more "modern" AmPro of 2016 got slashed (by vintage users) and anyone new to the series, will check for reviews and/or reads comments on forums and finds the ever recurring subject of the bridge issues and difficult setup. And
None of this brings confidence or appetite to buy.
And despite being a huge fan of The Smiths myself, the best version in the series is not only very expensive (about the price of the Ultra) yet linked to a "not that well known" artist and/or music not that appealing to a lot.
I hope the Player Jag is able to change the tide.
Otherwise it wouldn't make sense to release a new version.
Even the Original 60s version wasn't raved about.
A new artist backed version doesn't seem easy either; who besides Marr really is a known and outspoken poweruser?
To Fender's execs, it looks like most prefers looking for a good second hand of an age they were still well built.

Well I think there are lots of Jaguar users out there, but who knows in regards sales? Ironically in regards Johnny Marr he never used one when he was in The Smiths, it became his guitar of choice later on. But actually, now thinking about it, I don't know how many really well known players have / had a Jaguar as their 'main' guitar.. Lots of guitarists I really like have used them to various degrees of prominence though! Who knows in regards the future.. it has gone out of production before and then come back years later.. Do you feel that they are no longer well built, by the last line of that?

A few thoughts here, as a JM Jag owner...

First, it's far from clear that the JM Jag is being discontinued - it's still on Fender's site. That other thread was clear that the Sherwood Green was done, but not clear on the whole line.
To me, it seems the Jag is 'plagued' with a "original specs fetish" and might have an quality image problem.
I agree with the first part of this to an extent - that is why many people rated the JM so high, it was a modernisation without losing the feel of the Jag. Apart from the paint being delicate (which also applies to a number of other nitro Fenders), I don't see a perceived quality problem - interested to know what you feel is the image there.
And despite being a huge fan of The Smiths myself, the best version in the series is not only very expensive (about the price of the Ultra) yet linked to a "not that well known" artist and/or music not that appealing to a lot.
This is obviously hugely subjective, but Marr seems to me to be very well known indeed compared to a great number of current Fender sig models - Brent Mason, TVL, Tony Franklin, Jim Adkins, Ed O'Brien, Britt Daniel, Lincoln Brewster, Albert Hammond Jr, Troy Sanders, Ritchie Kotzen...... This is meant as no reflection at all on the merits and importance of any of these players, they just aren't as famous or influential as Marr as I see it (maybe my European perspective vs North America?). The JM Jag is expensive, but it is a US Fender signature edition so the price isn't miles off. Interestingly though, when I got mine, the price of the JM was much closer to that of the AV65/AO than it seems to be at the moment.

Jazzmasters seem to be flying off the shelves at the moment, so I don't see the traditional bridge issues (which don't apply to the JM anyway) being the killer. For me, it's the 24" scale. That makes it less "mainstream" (i.e. mass market), and easier to overlook without even trying. That said, if I could only have one guitar, it would be my Jazzmaster, not my Jag. However, Fender are still selling a *lot* of guitars, and diversifying their lines from mainly Strat and Tele hasn't hurt them at all in the last decade or so, so there should still be space for a few Jags.

So it seems Johnny rotates his volume and tone pots so that when on full they’re going in towards the bridge/pickups. Seen it in pictures of his jag and a live video where he rolls the volume back up there. Stock the volume and tone pots only roll straight up and not back. Anyone know how you could change that. Take knobs and plate off and just move the pots??

Much easier than that. There is a little grub screw in the side of the knob - loosen with Allen key, rotate, tighten. Bingo!

You’ll be shocked by how easy it is. About four seconds per knob.

I've been going back and forth on whether or not I want to change out the pickups on one of my Marr Jags (I have a KO & LPB). I like the stock BK pups, but sometimes I need more "oomph" to my sound. I'm planning on putting a set of Fralin 5% overwound in my KO Jag (which has already been modded with a Mastery Bridge and Spitfire tort guard). I'm keeping the LPB Marr completely stock.

Oh, and I'm not looking to use boost pedals to make up for the lower output, just to get that out of the way.

Who else here has swapped pickups?
