J Mascis Jazzmaster on the cover of german Gitarre & Bass magazine!

There is a big feature about the Fender Jazzmaster, surf music & a J Mascis interview in the 07/2007 Gitarre & Bass magazine… and the front cover shows the Mascis signature model!



In the interview he states it is mostly a standard japanese reissue, except for the sparkle finish, jumbo frets, gold guard and the T-O-M bridge. According to J, his main intention was "keeping the price as low as possible" - it will be around 600-700 USD.

You suppose that it will be available through regular retailers here in the states? or will it be something that you have to order from over seas?

oh, and please forgive my ignorance, but what is a T-O-M bridge? (still new here i guess i dont know all the acronyms) is it some kind of mustang bridge?

t-o-m = tune-o-matic, the kind of bridge you find on most gibson guitars

why a TOM? i gather J always uses one, but won't that make using the trem difficult? they should give you the option.

I've got a 70's Ibanez 2457, basically an ES-355 clone and it has a T-O-M bridge with a Maestro vibrola. I imagine the string angle is pretty similar to a JM or Jag with a standard bridge and vibrato system. I've had no difficulties at all with the 2457, the string tension is fine, strings don't pop out. I'm curious to know why some people think a T-O-M bridge is bad with a JM vibrato.

does it sound like j is having any difficulties using the trem on any of his jazzmasters...?
i have t-o-ms on all three of my JMs and i use the trem A LOT. never had any problems.

i see why a lot of people don't want a t-o-m on a jazzmaster, but the purpose of making a signature guitar is to meet the artist's desired specs, and if they aren't met, what point is there in calling it a signature guitar?

well i have to say that i never have used a TOM on any guitar besides stop-tails.

i guess i'm wrong, but i would think string movement wouldn't be as easy and string breakage would increase due to this. i guess the strings don't get caught in the saddles? Bigsby's have TOM's too don't they? pretty sure i answered my own question. oh well.

But I thought TOMs and rocking bridge vib systems didn't work well together. The Bigbsby and the JM vib system are two very different animals.
