Love mine, may have the infamous finish issue though...

Exactly how much difference does trem placement make in sound? Is it an actual, noticeable change, or just the kind of "change" you'll only notice if you're looking for a difference?

The "infamous finish issue"..............

Well, I've got a BMM 5oth Jag that's perfect. However.........before that, though I had purchased an OW AVRI62 Jazzmaster from MF and it had the "issue". The back of that one had an inprint of the case fabric in the paint. MF was willing to provide a replacement or additional discount. This one was light, resonant, and played excellent so I opted for the discount (after a 15% sale to begin with). I assume the fabric imprint was due to the lacquer being soft and not fully cured. After a few months out of the case to allow the lacquer to fully cure, I was able to remove virtually all of the texture imprint by carefully using McGuiers Scratch - X and polishing it. If you want to try this but are nervous or unsure, you could first try a test area under the PG. I've used Scratch-x quite a bit on various finishes and it's a good product. Many folks use it to "gloss up" satin finished acoustic guitars......like Martin 15 series, etc.

I recently played a Classic Player Jaguar in a store when I had an hour or so to kill and absolutely fell in love. Having decided that I'm definitely going to be in the market for a Jaguar soon, I now find about these guys (a little bit late, I realise).

Are they a significant step up from the Classic Player? I much prefer the modern radius, bigger frets, etc. I can afford the Classic Player right now but the 50th Anniversary will require substantially more gear selling/belt tightening and then there's the added complication that I'm in Australia and I'm pretty sweet on having one in Burgundy Mist if I go down that road. I guess I'm wondering whether I should I just get the CP and take a deep breath?

That burgundy mist with the blocks and binding is just gorgeous however and it's the kind of guitar I would plan to keep forever so perhaps it's worth really committing to the idea...

Absolutely commit to it! I have had an insane number of Jags. You name it, I have had it. My favorite? My 50th anni Jag in lake placid blue. The neck is to die for both in appearance and feel. I am not a huge fan of the hotter pickups but I have a set of AV65 jag pups to put in it one day. If you like the hotter CP pups, these are the same and you will be happy. Also, resale and possible overall collectibility will be much better on a 50th. It is basically a one model year guitar made in USA so you won't lose money off of it should you ever need to sell.

You make a great deal of sense.

I need to give this some thought...

This makes me to want one too, but first i need the money for some pedals i am GASing right now. Beside that, my major Problem is, i want another 50th Jag. I am so much in love, i am afraid that if she ever get damaged or stolen, i am lost. And I say this even though I have plenty of other guitars...

Well, I sold my Telecaster and almost all of my pedals and managed to find one store in Australia that still has a brand new BMM 50th Anniversary Jag in stock - so I guess this is happening!

Yes!! Congrats! You will love it. If you don't, you probably don't like Jaguars and will need to donate it to me.

Ha, I'll let you know.

I'm pretty goddam excited for it to arrive, I have to say. Though everybody already knows what they look like, I may not be able to resist posting a photo once it's here...

for a long time I thought these were poly-coated but i've seen a couple posts talking about their nitro coat - do these guitars have a nitro finish? I just had to sell my AV65 and ONE DAY, I'll be looking for another MIA Fender offset and this boy has a few of my favorite features in LPB finish and B&B neck, if only it had a matching headstock!

They have an extremely thin nitro finish. Matching headstock is the only thing missing on them for it to be my favorite thing ever! Two interesting facts about these, the decal is under the clear coat on the headstock instead of on top (which I like) and this is the only jaguar ever made that says "Made in USA" on back of headstock. They seem to be climbing in price lately. About a year ago I was seeing them in the 1000 dollar range frequently. I even saw one go for just over $900. Now, they seem to be up in the $1300-1500 range. I kind of wish I had picked up a couple more back when they were giving them away!!

I paid a pretty hefty sum for mine ($2399 AUD which works out to $1839 in USD currently) however considering the likelihood of finding another brand new BMM 50th Anniversary Jag, I didn't want to pass it up. Classic Player Jags run about $1500 AUD ($1150 USD) or thereabouts over here by way of comparison. Even if I waited around to find one cheaper (eg. via eBay), it almost certainly would've been in the USA or elsewhere and once you figure in international postage...

*expensive as hell.

I found one other 50th Anniversary Jaguar in LPB over here but it was about $100 more again!

On a brighter note, though my Jag hasn't found its way to my doorstop yet, I ordered a Staytrem a few days ago too. Looking forward to finally being an offset guy.

That crashing sound was just the irony-meter breaking, not to worry.
