GFS Roller Bridge on CP JM?
I know it's been discussed before, so excuse my redundancy. I've been exploring possible options for an after-market bridge for my CP for a while now. I can't really explain it, but I just don't entirely like the stock Adjust-o-matic bridge.
1.) I know the GFS bridge has a 12" radius, and the CP is 9.5", but I've also heard that the stock AOM bridge is actual 12" as well. Is this true, and if not, would any issues arise in putting the 12" GFS on my CP? Also, if the stock bridge really is 12", could that be the reason it feels strange to me? You know, because it doesn't match the neck radius?
2.) How can I expect the GFS bridge to perform differently from the stock one? I heard the roller bridge increases sustain and has a positive effect on the functionality of the tremolo system.
Oh, and while I'm at it, I'd love to hear if anyone else has had any luck with other after-market bridges on their CP's, or if people just have other ideas/suggestions to throw at me, I'm cool with that too.

Re: GFS Roller Bridge on CP JM?
I just posted this in the Jazz-Stang-Omatic thread - "For anyone who's interested, I picked up a Mighty Might roller TOM bridge was a straight drop on to my CP jazzy. Didn't even remove the strings, just loosened them up, pulled the stock AOM bridge and dropped this in on the same posts. I can't believe how much more sustain it has now and is SO much smoother with the trem. I got mine on Amazon.com because I had a gift card, but I'm not seeing there now. It looks the same as this one http://www.guitarfetish.com/Roller-Brid ... p_661.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I know it's got the 12" radius, but it appears to be the same radius as the stock Adjust-o-matics that come with the CPs."
I really noticed a huge difference right away.

Awesome. Ideally, I'd like to do away with the TOM styled bridge altogether in favor of a Fender-styled bridge, but I'm not too freaked over the idea of replacing the thimbles. I think the roller bridge might feel a little less stiff and awkward than the stock bridge, if you know what I mean.

Re: GFS Roller Bridge on CP JM?
I've got the GFS one on my CP Jazzmaster. I really didn't notice any difference in the playability or feel of the guitar, just the "plunkiness" of a JM was suddenly there like it should have been. The sustain is definitely better and the trem is a bit more stable as far as not detuning with use.

So the 12" radius of the bridge works with the 9.5"ness of the CP JM?
Just to be super clear

Yea, I love my CP HH Jag, but I'm not sure how they consider the TOM a "fix". The thing buzzes like crazy, even with 11's. Got a GFS roller on the way, so it's good to hear the encouraging news.

You probably already know this but for the buzzing on the CP bridge all you need is some clear nail varnish on the screws..The thing buzzes like crazy,

That's what I've heard, but for the price I figured I might as well try out the new bridge. Good to have options, plus if it's anything like me & superglue, I'd probably end up getting more on myself than on the screwsmonkeybeats wrote:You probably already know this but for the buzzing on the CP bridge all you need is some clear nail varnish on the screws..The thing buzzes like crazy,

Re: GFS Roller Bridge on CP JM?
I have the GFS roller bridge, too. I also tried a (nicer) tune-o-matic than the one that came stock on the guitar. While the tune-o-matic was radiused to fit this guitar's 9.5", I still prefer the roller bridge because of the way interacts with the trem. I will say that, especially further up the fretboard, I notice that the E and e strings seem to be further away from from the neck than the other strings (because they are) but it doesn't really bother me. Also, the guitar sounds different with a roller bridge. "Plunky" is a good description.

Re: GFS Roller Bridge on CP JM?
I went back to an AVRI bridge in my CP Jazzmaster a year ago and it works great. I kept the CP "thimbles" intact and just screwed down a couple of 8x15 mm set screws from Ace Hardware. The action is so low on these CP's that I had to remove 1/8" (and no more) from each AVRI bridge post so that the bridge screws would pivot inside the heads of the 8x15mm screws. Just make sure to remove the bridge screws before you hack or file the bridge posts.Spit on a Stranger wrote:I'd like to do away with the TOM styled bridge altogether in favor of a Fender-styled bridge, but I'm not too freaked over the idea of replacing the thimbles.

Re: GFS Roller Bridge on CP JM?
They consider the TOM a "fix" because seemingly a plurality of players who try to use 10s with a traditional Jaguar bridge have big problems with it, to the point that they are driven to change out the bridge.daemon wrote:Yea, I love my CP HH Jag, but I'm not sure how they consider the TOM a "fix". It would indeed be questionable to call it a "fix" if the same plurality of players found that their TOM bridge "buzzes like crazy, even with 11s", and sought to change it out.
However IMO that is not the case. From reading posts on this board over time, there is indeed a group of CP players who experience the issues you are describing. But most don't have any issues with it at all. Most TOM owners are sufficiently content with their bridges that they do not try to change them out. Not all, but by far most. Hence, it is a "fix", comparatively speaking, given the comparative proportions of players who are satisfied with their bridges in each case.
Count me among the latter group. My CP bridge functions perfectly. I have no buzzing issues with mine, or any other issues with it either, for that matter.
I don't know what accounts for the differences in our setups that causes you to have these issues, while I don't have any whatsoever. But there must be something different, seems to me.

Glad to hear it's worked for most people. Perhaps some subset of them came out of the factory with varying levels of quality. I do notice that if I push the saddle back it seems to go away for a while.

RESURRECTION!
I bought the GFS roller bridge. I was under the impression it was a drop-in fit on my CP Jazzmaster, but alas...NO!
Did you guys who have one have to drill more holes or replace the thimbles?
I tried to get crazy and pull the rolly saddles off of the GFS bridge and put them on my TOM, but that didn't work.

That looks just like my Mighty Might that fit perfectly with no mods.
