japanese bass vi pricing?
Hey there, this is my first post...well...second after the post in the introduction page. Anyway, after much searching, I found someone with a 90s Japanese Bass VI to sell. He wants $1500 for it. I think this is way too much, but what should it be? The guitar is in great condition. I tried to look up old ebay actions etc to find out how much the Japanese reissues have been going for, but nothing has come up. Can anybody help?

Re: japanese bass vi pricing?
I saw one online a few months ago for around $1000 CDN...That was a steal. $1500 may be a little steep, but I don't think it's unreasonable.

A while ago they were going for up to $1500 but that was before the run of CS Bass VIs .. so they're no longer the only modern option for a ready-made VI and I think the gloss has gone off them a little. I mean, you can order a brand new VI from the CS and choose your own custom colour for $2600, so that makes $1500 for a second-hand CIJ VI look a bit steep to me.

Wow, I just saw Capsule Music really bought their VI from Paul's Boutique and juiced up the price with nearly half a grand. Great business...RumorsOFsurF wrote: I saw one online a few months ago for around $1000 CDN

Still, I also think $1500 is a bit too much. I've seen an CIJ VIs on ebay last year, which sold for about $1300 IIRC. I missed out on one which sold for €975

I must say I never realised you could choose any color on a CS VI for the same price. I always thought sunburst was the only option, and any other color would cost you seriously more $$

It's only through certain dealers, in the US. I'm not sure if they would charge less for a sunburst, but $2660 is the price I was quoted for a custom colour VI. A couple of guys on here have already ordered theirs .. a bit more info here.

$1500 USD used to be the price for the Japanese reissues, but I agree that the CS 2006 has made the market dip a bit. Still, for 1500 plus about 300 for a body refin, and you'd have a custom color for less than the 2600 for the CS 2006. Only real difference IMHO is the trem and the pickups, which are easily swapped out for not too much. If nitro finish is a must have, then the CS 2006 is the only way to go.
I have both, and there were some problems with my reissue (bridge posts drilled out). Once I had it repaired, it sounds pretty close to the CS, though the CS pickups do sound a bit better (brighter, but mellower). Interestingly, the trem arm is flopping around on my CS, and it works perfectly on the reissue. I'll fix the CS trem arm next time I change strings.

Re: japanese bass vi pricing?
I'm going to try to bring the guy down to 1200 or 1300, but if he won't bite I'll let this one go. He said he'll send me some pictures; if he does I'll post them. It is in great condition cosmetically, but that doesn't really matter to me.
What was the problem with the reissue's pickups? And what would you reccomend swapping them out for? I have a Jag Bari, and I've thought about swapping out the stock pups for SD Quarter Pounders, but after awhile I decided I liked the stock ones fine.
