New source for gold guards?

Post by notbillcosby » Thu Jul 26, 2007 7:36 am

So ah... While we might not all want a sparkly purple JM, the JM JM DOES come with a gold guard on it. Suppose those will fit the AVRIs? I sure hope so, that means I could order one through work.... Score.

I'm sort of doubting it seeing as the JM JM is a Japanese model. But there's always hope...

The guard on the CIJ JM JM is definitely a Japan guard, which were already available through Fender Japan and look/feel nothing like original gold guards, as well as having different shape and thickness. They are not so bad when there is no other option, but I think the AllParts/GPR option is way better, especially if you have an American made guitar.

these guards are supposed to fit AVRIs. but in shape/feel/thickness, they are apparently similar to the fender japan guards. a few forumites have bought these guards, luau is one of them IIRC.

Hrm... The only gold guard i've ever felt is the one on a PBass Deluxe I ordered for someone. I have no idea how any of these compare to the old ones...

they do look good, i think they main problem with them is the thickness. since they are so thin, there's a small gap between the guard an the rhythm circuit bracket, even with the screws focred in all the way, and it can cause some rattle. but you can use washers to make the fit tighter.

Wow... I really don't need to introduce more weird spots for potential rattles on this guitar.

Does anyone know how the coloring on the new allparts guards compares to the original?

Mine came from GPR. Whether or not they got it from Allparts, I do not know. The thickness is definitely an issue. I left the shield under mine ( :k) and did have to add washers between the bottom of the shield and the rhythm circuit bracket. I bought a pack of pretty small washers from Radio Shack for $1.00 and fixed it right up. The fit is good now and it doesn't rattle or cause any problems whatsoever.

I think FUZZ_KING just got one of the newer ones and the thickness was right.
Bigger in sum than parts.

The colour of the gold guard in Jonas's user pic is such a nice gold. It's original, I believe. So nice... :(
