Guess I am in the minority and absolutely HATE HATE HATE IT!

Of course the Bridge is one of the things I absolutely love about my Toronado.

Spit on a Stranger wrote:Aesthetically, it could probably work with JM pickups or a three PUP Strat configuration. Then again, Jags have a large pickguard and make two single coils work just fine, from a visual stand point.

But I'm fine with Toronados having humbuckers. I still tend to think of Fender as the single coil guitar, and think they should embrace this legacy more than they have in recent years, but it's good to embrace a few HB models, the Toronado being one of few I consider a success. I think Fender's business model is totally fucked, they need to embrace their classic models, but also introduce some inovation... right now, their business model (like most guitar companies) is based on appropriating tride-and-true, pre-existing models, and advertising it as innovation, when really they're just negating the "if it's not broke..." theory. Then again, I think some of the CBS era Telecaster concoctions are amazing, so maybe I'm generalizing.

But screw company politics. That band/Toronado look like a whole hell lot of fun. I'm curious how he was using that saw and what kind of sound it produced. All I can think of is GY!BE and their use of screwdrivers.
For got about the P90 model. I wonder if a regular Toronado guard would fit the body, only with cutouts to fit the P90's instead. I much prefer the regular pickguard to the smaller one. Also the P90 version might work better as you wouldn't have any extra holes on the body from the old bridge and string thru.

I'd go with two Jaguar pickups in the bridge wired like a humbucker and a single Jag pup in the neck position. :?

I wholly agree with you though on Fender needing to embrace single coils. Or at least experiment with them a lot more. I think there's still room with them to create new tones. Have any of their new guitars featured the split coils found on the XII? I think the Venus XII was the last...newer model to use them.

They could at the very least use more hot rail style humbuckers to keep the old aesthetic.

Came across this from a "boutique" maker. Why Fender doesn't try things like this I'm not sure. Other then the whole...making money thing.

I suppose the pickups on the Pawn Shop Mustang are a bit similar, with all the switching options and what not.

A member on here has done a Tele with two sets of P-Bass pickups...looked and sounded fantastic. Just ideas like these, you'd think they'd try. Or maybe they do and they just never seen the light of day.

Hmmm a Toronado with P bass pups...

Looks like a Jazz/Jag bridge to me.

I've got a Toronado Deluxe Series that I love too much to risk screwing up (amateur over here) but if I can ever get my hands on another at a decent price then a Bigsby may be in the cards. Definitely a sweet look.

Last night, I sawed all my guitars and my amps in half.
Unfortunately, I did this in my basement; must have been cool on stage though!
You see, that's why I love this forum so much: it's so inspiring!
Right now I'm working on the kitchen table...
