Your fave offset player tone

For me, it's a draw between Rowland S. Howard (Jaguar) and Adam Franklin (Jazzmaster).

Did.  Are you referring to " Best/Favorite examples of Fender offsets on record/live"?  If so, my aim is a bit different.  I'm not looking for specific performaces, but overall tone by specific players.  Has that been done?  If so,  a search on "favorite" didn't turn it up...

I've always like the tones of Thurston and Lee...especialy on songs like "Sunday"

but most of all, I dig my own tone...I'm serious...so many times I look at the amp and think "goddamn this sounds great!" ;D

Nope. I believe it was called "favorite offset player"...

In deference to Steven, I re-read a bit of the Best/Favorite examples of Fender offsets on record/live and I suppose the idea is nearly the same as the idea here, but I was looking for less specificity in terms of particular records or songs.  More or less the same idea, though...

Definitely different.  I'm after tone specifically, whether you like the way the guy/gal plays is immaterial, it's the sound of the player that counts here.  Also, I'm not limiting it to Jazzmasters.  Maybe that's splitting hairs, but it seems to me that "best Jazzmaster player" is based on the playing more than the sound.

Maybe I'm being too nuanced here, but my concept is not "Tom Verlaine is an awesome player, and he plays a Jazzmaster", it's "Adam Franklin's tone is great, and that tone is/was comprised of a Jazzmaster, a 50 watt Marshall, an AC30 and a mess of Boss pedals".  In example 1 if you take away the player you aren't left with anything, in example 2, you could hand that rig to anyone who can play rudimentary guitar and it'll still sound great.  Maybe it's a bit redundant, but it's no more redundant than the many threads in which people talk about what color guitar they like best...

Same or different, people will either reply, or not, in which case it will drop off the first page and will serve as an example of democracy in action, or inaction, since that's what'll make it drop out of sight.  I promise not to post on this thread again just to keep it alive.  Let the people speak!

Or not.
