Best custom color that never was found on Fender offsets...

Post by glimmertwin » Mon Oct 30, 2006 6:14 pm

I was thinking today of a really cool  looking color that I have never seen a Jag or JM in - how bout this one?

Pelham Blue?  I think it would be sweet with a mint green guard.

Anyone ever seen Pelham Blue on a Fender or maybe wished you had a fender painted another custom color?

i think it'd look good with a black guard! or plain aluminum.

but i agree, i don't think i like mint guards ever, but it'd work well on that.

pelham always looks great when the clear yellows.

Gibby/Fender Custom colors were very close:

Pelham was LPB
Sparkling Burgundy was CAR
Inverness Green was Surf Green
Heather Poly was Burgundy Mist
Golden Poly was Shoreline Gold...and so on.

Funny you post an Elliot Easton Model.
I was talking to his brother 2 hours ago at a gym.
He said EE is feeling fine and playing like a 25 year old!
Competition Stripes make them play FASTER.

I don't know - I think Pelham is pretty different from LPB but its always depends on the angle I guess.  I see much more grey in Pelham than LPB.  I will say that aged LPB and aged Pelham tend to look more similar than the unaged versions - must be something about the visual weight given to yellows as they age on blue...or I could have some sort of color blindness. ;)

Ya, I occasionally hang out in some of the Gibby forums and I see where Elliot posts there quite often.  He seems to really have a passion for playing music.  I hope I'm still passionate like that when I get older!

Let me guess, the Elliot Easton signature model, I've never seen pelham blue on any gibson except that one before.  If I see one I'm definatley taking it for a spin.

i really love pelham blue gibsons. i almost bought a melody maker SG in pelham blue a few years ago, but at the last minute the seller changed the price because he discovered that the pickup he had  thought was non-original was in fact an original. the first price was about $700, and the "wow it´s a 100% original 60s gibson"-price was $1500!

and i gotta say pelham blue looks very much like LBP to me. with all the variations in yellowing of the clear coat, i think it would be very hard to tell the difference between a 60s fender finished in pelham and one in LPB.

being a fan of large flake sparkle finishes, i would love to have seen that (large flake sparkle finishes) as a factory finish in the 70's, i realise i'm probably on my own on this one.
although - if this sort of factory finish was more commonplace i might not like it as much! mmmm... what's all that about then? i think alot of us probably like the more "unusual" colours BECAUSE they are less common/more rare/out of the ordinary.
a case of the grass always being greener on the other side?

I think that is true...I love all the custom colours, but ultimately, I'm more likely to choose Black, Olympic White, Blonde, Sunburst, Gold or Fiesta Red over other more off the wall colours.

I seem to like the classics deep at heart, even though I love seeing pics of Burgundy Mist etc.

this as well is, I tend to love the look of them custom colours when they've aged for 40 years...I never reallly like the same colour on a brand new guitar.

it's ood.  ???

Personally, I think a parchment pg would look outstanding on that color...

Inverness Green looks nothing like Surf Green, maybe you meant Kerry Green.

There is a Custom Color Chart here for the Gibson Firebirds and it explains which colors were close to the Fenders and which ones were slightly lighter.

What about the "none more black" colour?

There are 2 colours that I would love to see on a Jazzmaster, Jaguar or Electric XII (unfortunately the 'Dressing Room' doesn't offer this option yet) : (Competition) orange & purple....
I'm sure that one of these models in either colour especially coupled with a tortoise pickguard would look absolutely stunning, but so far I've only seen the rather famous 1962 'purple sparkle' Jaguar that was sold a few years back by Rumble Seat Music -

There was also a great-looking refinished purple Jaguar offered a while ago by the Swedish guitarshop 'Vintage Guitars', which doesn't look too shabby either...http://www.vintage-guitars.se/1963_Fender_Jaguar.htm

Has anyone here ever seen a pic of an orange Jazzmaster?! I would really love to see that...

Here's my orange Jaguar, though I'm probably going to have it refinished in Burgundy Mist.

Thanks for posting that pic, seasick croc :) - that's actually the very first orange Jaguar I've ever seen, and it looks really great!
I presume that's not the guitar's original finish?
