This looks awesome. The way you matched the tort and headstock (ish) is really inventive. I love it.NICQ wrote:revived this old thread coz I put a TVL neck on my surf green JM build this weekend and she now qualifies for one of the weirder mismatches
almost tort but the oxblood is a bit more purple...
I kinda like it though

I passed on a deal that was too good to pass up (I know, right?) on an AV65 firemist neck that I was going to mismatch. Ahhh... Regrets.

You know, I originally started this thread out of morbid fascination, in the hopes of gawking at some garish novelties and little else. But the last few posts have unexpectedly changed my perspective, and now I'm seeing how stylish and creative the mismatch approach can be. You guys have put together some awesome guitars in a really original way. I love it.
For curiosity's sake, what was the body going to be?tylerforyou wrote:I passed on a deal that was too good to pass up (I know, right?) on an AV65 firemist neck that I was going to mismatch. Ahhh... Regrets.

for offsets especially, i don't think you can go wrong with a black headstock (rosewood board).

Asking that question is the very reason I ran out of time to buy the neck.amv wrote:

yeah! i never even thought of my Yammy SG-3 as being mis-matched. the white and red models get matching HS finishes, but the sunburst gets black. i guess black matches the edge of the sunburst... always dug it without much thought!

Non offsets, but Coronado's have mismatch headstocks and it looks just perfect and cool and killer.

For a tasteful look I've been really GASsing over the idea of a Daphne Blue Jaguar with a tort guard and a Midnight Wine headstock.
Thinking of the most horrendous idea I can I'd go with Purple Sparkle Flake with a parchment guard and a headstock the muddy orange colour of an Orange amplifier. Like the worst thing to come out of the 1970s since Margaret Thatcher!

Agree with both of you.dinosaurkale-> wrote:i always thought that a black headstock could pretty much go with anything
I guess technically it 'matches' the pickguard
