Re: Squier unveils The Cribs signature
My mus-uar...? mu-uar?... arrived a couple of days ago and I am pretty pleased with it. Everything about the build and finish is fantastic and the colour really is great. I got two string trees also. I'm not overly keen on the look of the black humbucker although it sounds fine I'm considering replacing it with either a mojo humbucker sized wrhb or one of his humbucker sized gold foil pickups. I'm quite interested in trying the gold foil as I already own a Starcaster with the fender wide range pickups.
The fender vibrato unit is great although the hold button on mine doesn't seem to be functioning properly. Can't really fault the thing otherwise. Maybe a custom pickguard from decoboom would set it off nicely?
Thanks Ryan and Gary. Jarmen

The guitar looks really nice.
With this design, It seems as though there is something unresolved about the bridge area and how it meets the control plate. Looks weird to me anyway but others may not care.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but I find this thread comical.
There's quite a double standard here, don't ya think? If this guitar wasn't designed by an active member of this forum, and was released by Squier in the west, MOST of y'all would be bitching that:
A) Fender fucked up an original design
B) price
C) mismatched pickups
D) cheap pickups/ hardware
E) poor set up/ superficial flaws
F) fret/ neck radius choice
G) no color choice/ the color choice
H) why can't Fender release some unrelated vintage model

This guitar is pretty much something entirely new, so personally, I don't see the relevance of the above points... (I don't mean to flame you btw.)TeenageShutdown! wrote:I'll probably get flamed for this, but I find this thread comical.

I liked the bass even before i knew a member designed it. In fact, i dont even know any Cribs/Jarman's music.
Good job on the design Jarman. Too bad theyre not for sale in Canada.

A lot of us would rather see new offset designs, whatever quirks they may have, than debate who sells the most vintage correct lake placid blue nitrocellulose so our 1960's cosplay will be more authentic than our friends on the internet.

Re: Squier unveils The Cribs signature
I've ordered one!
I saw this guitar pre-announced months ago and was interested.
Are they really only making 150? Is it a EU only release?
I wanna change that high output, JB-styled bridge humbucker pickup out, though. (I don't feel it's a good match and I already have two other guitars with JB style bridge pickups.)
Any thoughts what to replace the bridge pickup with? A vintage output PAF style humbucker? A Fillertron? A P94?
I don't like the idea of the TOM type bridge; won't it cause the strings to bind with that style of tremolo? Is it a fixed bridge or does it rock/float? Would either a Mustang or roller bridge be a straight drop-in replacement?

That's a crazy awesome-looking guitar. I'd ditch the black humbucker, though. Something chrome-covered would do nicely.

Re: Squier unveils The Cribs signature
Could drop in one of the various roller bridges that fit TOM posts. The radius is either 12 or 14 on a roller bridge & the neck is 9.5 radius. Could just live with the radius difference. The Wilkinson type roller bridge saddles can be shimmed to adjust for radius.Ro_S wrote: I don't like the idea of the TOM type bridge; won't it cause the strings to bind with that style of tremolo? Otherwise you would need something like the Staytrem 9.5 radius with conversion thimbles.

Re: Squier unveils The Cribs signature
After playing with it for a week's time now, I have to say I am still really impressed. Its unique features, build quality and playability are up to par with my jagumarr and CS JM.
The sounds and switching are really nice. I am switching out the humbucker, either considering a goldfoil, a widerange or a less compressed std humbucker.
I might also switch out the TOM bridge, but it's not bothering me that much. Perhaps a compton bridge?
