Thanks for all the info Gary, really nice to read. I've been excited about this guitar since the first pics surfaced...

Anyhow, I've duly pre-order one as a pressie for my 9yr old daughter who played a 'Different Angle/I'm a Realist' intros mash up in her school assembly last week. A very cool and unique first electric for her.... And I'm sure she won't mind lending it to me now and again...... :P

Also, some of the stores say these are ltd to 150 in the uk....

Jarman wrote:I also wanted to pay tribute to the Bass V - which was a very unpopular Fender model, and really freaked the Fender guys out when I proposed bringing it back! But I always thought it was cool looking and wanted to try and give it another lease of life. It was a real challenge to make it work though. The shape of the original V was really unusual, and the body size was really out of whack with the neck, so we had to do a lot of finessing with the shape (while not deviating too far from the original intent), as well as trying out different necks etc. The original prototype (the one that is in the live pics in the earlier thread) was undersized, and I felt that it was having an identity crisis of sorts - a short scale bass with a medium scale neck. So we scaled the body up, and now it feels like a substantial, full size instrument. The medium scale was used because the bass was intended to be part Mustang, part Precision - so we met in the middle. Fender were also keen to do another medium scale bass.
The Bass V is what I immediately thought of when I saw the signature bass (and unlike some, I find that to be a positive feature). The 32" scale is a real nice touch as well as there are hardly any Fenders (aside from maybe a Japanese special P-Bass) with that mid-scale length. Looking forward to get my hands on one!

I want to get the bass too. Will they be available to us CND folk?

I designed a custom guitar to be a "mini-Jaguar," as I call it, also influenced by the Vista Series, since I own a Jag-Master and a sparkly blue Super-Sonic. I'll be introducing my design to OSG shortly after it comes to me on Thursday.

Though I've never heard the Cribs, their Squier guitar will definitely strike a chord with offset lovers. Many of us love shortscale offsets with the the smaller Mustang-style body. The Cribs Squier is no Bilinda Mustang, but it is an important step in that direction, with quality parts. The first to be replaced will undoubtedly be the pickups, and then the TOM, and then, possibly, the trem arm and the vibrato itself. After all, Jarman has told us that he wanted the guitar to be looked at as a platform for mods, so my statement is no slight. But I'm sure that many will find that the guitar will suit them perfectly the way that it is. Some of us, like Jarman, love the Squier Vista Series, and we play our Squiers with pride, while others struggle with their AVRIs.

In any case, the Cribs guitar is more like a mini-Bass VI to me than a mini-Jaguar.

Cheers to the design.

I think the guitar is actually the same body shape as the 'pawn shop' series Mustang with a jaguar horn at the bottom. Would definitely match up well with a bass vi though!

I like this design, but why is the volume knob so close to the edge of the control plate? Is there a practical reason for this? Looks a bit strange to me.

What store is selling these? I have been regularly checking the web but have yet to find an actual release date.
