Bridge Pickup shim for a Jazzmaster

Post by Angry Jonny » Wed May 12, 2021 11:55 am

Anyone made one or know of where you could find a shim for a jazzmaster bridge pickup?

I have a rather steep Stew Mac neck shim installed to try and get a better break angle, which I actually really like, but the downside is that my bridge pickup screws can't stay in the body and let the pickup be as high as it ought to be.

Anyone done anything clever with this?

The pickup screws are pretty long. Maybe the holes are stripped? If so, you can fix with toothpicks and glue trick...If you have trouble keeping the pickup at the right height, 5/8" minimal compression weather stripping works great. Maybe a picture of your bridge would help me to understand.

You'd have to glue wood to the body, for sure. But one thing it could almost be anything that fits in the 'tabs' of the pickup route and doesnt need to all be one piece. Prob best to drill before gluing and align with a cocktail stick into the previous holes as I am guessing it /must/ reach those holes but just not enough. It must be a way huge break angle there! And maybe the holes are stripped, yes.

Youd probably want some larger block under the pickup as well then, at least to save on foam. Does it need to cover the whole route? Not really.

Switch to a less severe neck shim?
