I had an issue with string balance on the black bobbins. The pole piece staggering was the culprit. Very pleasant sounding pickup to me though. Ended up moving to Novak to restore some of the sparkle
Hmmmm you know I think that I'm experiencing a similar thing with the string balance. Might also switch to Novaks then.
I had this issue with the Black Bobbins, too and I doubted myself about what I was hearing for a while. My b string just felt way over powered. I adjusted to it somewhat, but it would still occasionally surprise me.

Yes! I thought I was imagining it too - the B string would come through so loudly. Not ideal for fingerstyle stuff. The pickup sounds great for strumming/single notes but I'm definitely having issues with the string balance. The guitar is sold though, so onto the next thing I guess.

Exactly the same experience even down to the fact that the guitar now gone! haha

I just got my Jazzmaster back with the Lollar black bobbins. I also did the 280k pots he recommends. I have to say I’m completely happy. Best sounding Jazzmaster I’ve ever played, without a doubt. The bridge is now usable and the middle position and neck still sound great. I was worried about going all the way down to 280k but shouldn’t have been. Plenty of good treble still on tap.
