Baritone Bridge?
First time topic poster, so go easy one me! I have a player II jaguar I'm converting to a Baritone, because Mk.Gee and I've also been playing baritone for a few years and never bonded with any options on the market. My main concern is intonating the low B, and the mustang bridge is still a bit sharp with the saddle all the way back. I was suggested using a Staytrem bass vi bridge in r/offset but I'm in US and Staytrem isnt taking orders.
I have the AmPro bridge on my Jazzmaster, which is staytrem inspired, and like that, but wanted to try something new. The high spirit, due to simplicity of three saddles and ability to adjust radius, and bensonite, due to great experience with their tele bridge, were my top contenders in part due to price, but wanted to see if anyone had better suggestions too.

Re: Baritone Bridge?
I have a baritone Jag . I've found that the Am Pro bridge doesn't have a wide enough string slot on the E (or B in this case) string saddle for baritone sized strings, or at least the gauges I like. My Jag has a 9.5"R fretboard and a Squier CV bridge. The E saddle was still a bit tight, but a few strokes with an nut file fixed it right up. The scale is 26.9375" and the B saddle is cranked all the way back, but it does intonate. You might need to cut the spring in half to get it back far enough.

thanks Doug, what gauge are you using that doesnt fit well in the saddles? also are you using a conversion neck to get that scale length?

This is a bit of a tangent, but I’m pretty sure Mk.gee plays a regular scale length Jaguar tuned down with heavy strings. That being said, I totally get that you’d rather have a baritone neck. End of tangent

yeah he does play a 24" jaguar! I didn't bond with the subsonic neck and fell in love with the new player ii jag at the store so I'm trying this route instead.alexpigment wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2024 6:24 amThis is a bit of a tangent, but I’m pretty sure Mk.gee plays a regular scale length Jaguar tuned down with heavy strings. no shade at the subsonic necks, they're a great and cheap way to try out baritone.

Ahh, I thought by “converting to baritone” you meant replacing the neck. You’re just converting to baritone tuning - got it

I am using a conversion neck (that I made). It has a .065" 6th string (flatwound D'Addario are just long enough). Mines actually tuned to C# though, since I had a baritone tuned to B already. I should have mentioned that C# tuning before.eggo_princess wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2024 5:31 amthanks Doug, what gauge are you using that doesnt fit well in the saddles? also are you using a conversion neck to get that scale length?

Here's what it looked like right after swapping over the neck. It's a Maple neck with a Zebrano fretboard. The body is from a Squier VM Jaguar.

Looks more like this right now though:

I'm firmly on team Staytrem, especially if you're having intonation issues - that Halon doesn't have individual saddles, which is gonna make your life slightly trickier. While you wait... have you tried just turning the bridge 180 degrees? So you get the extra couple mm from not having the spring in the way?eggo_princess wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 3:28 am

A guy I know makes them out of bronco bodies and slaps on no-name brand Tele bridges that seem to support the strings. Intonates fine.

Thanks for the advice, I am planning to once I get some baritone flats in, it has taken a while for them to ship.MrSparkle wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 4:39 amI'm firmly on team Staytrem, especially if you're having intonation issues - that Halon doesn't have individual saddles, which is gonna make your life slightly trickier. Re: Baritone Bridge?
Kendall of Bensonite message me back to let me know that their bridges are not designed to handle the thicker strings on a baritone, so that rules that out.
