Hey,
I need to replace the foam on the mute of this '64 I'm working on. Also the pickups need new foam.
I'm looking at GPR... what foam should I use for the pickups and how good is the foam they offer for the mute?
are there any better vendors for this stuff?

Re: FOAM
this is an excellent question...I made a call to Fender, when I was building the Shadowmaster, and the guy there said the foam was nothing more than weatherstripping and could be found at Home Depot.
So...I went to Home Depot, but didn't find anything similar to what they are using now.

Re: FOAM
The pickup foam is the same stuff they use on Jazz basses, works for either Jags (one long strip lengthways, I think) or JMs (two short strips sideways).

Yes, what mezcalhead and pullover said regarding the pickup foam... J-bass foam form GPR is perfect. The mute foam form GPR is right on too, it's the same stuff on the AV Jag.
It's actually 3M self-adhesive weatherstripping as Aug says. You can buy it by the foot at ACE hardware or precut from GPR.

I also use the 3M wheather stripping, it's very close.
I got some from a guy who worked at my previous apartment when the windows were replaced.
I also used cut up mouse mats ( the ones you get for free usually work best)
