E-E distance of jazzmaster tailpiece
Hello offset guitarists! I have one question about E-E distance of tremolo units. I have a Hosco jazzmaster trem unit with a 51 mm (~2”) E-E distance and I am thinking of upgrading to an Fender american trem unit. My question is: will the E-E distance be larger than 51 mm? I have searched the interwebs and found nothing about this...

It's not the AVRI or Am Pro trem (likely the same trem just with different collets/arms), but the (Korean-made) Classic Player trem's (0076232049) E-E spacing is a fraction under 57mm.

My AVRI measures about 55mm.

The good news is that there is some fudge room. You don't really need to match the trem and bridge string spacing (and in fact, you rarely do). Just make sure they're within 3-4mm and you should be fine.

Thank you very much! My bridge is E to E 55 mm so perhaps some buzz will disappear with an AVRI trem even if the difference is within this range.

You can run into odd string spacing issues with narrow MIJ trems and some bridge saddle / pickup pole / neck spacings, like this one I saw recently ...

Re: E-E distance of jazzmaster tailpiece
I was pretty sure the MIJ trek was causing low E to pop out and buzz when used a stock bridge. Just extra force to the side where not wanted, so I've always tilted the saddle in as much as the force is 'redirected down'(now modified mustang type).

That’s a good tip! Another good argument to change back to the stock bridge IMO. I’m using a mustang bridge now and the E strings are angled sideways which in my case gives a buzzy tone to the thin E string.

Helps spacing too. I always find (on any guitar almost) the E is closer than others. I do thumb-over playing.. It will make it wider.bjornsynneby wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 6:25 amThat’s a good tip! I've used 9.5" radius mustang saddles with Squier 52mm bridges to good effect, it's the best of both worlds, and roughly equivalent to the AM Pro bridge at a fraction of the cost. I find that the wider spacing of the American bridges puts the e strings closer to the end of the neck than I'd prefer.

Hi. I just measured my [2] AVRI assemblies. One from a ~2001 AVRI Jaguar, the other was purchased new in 2010.bjornsynneby wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 10:49 pmThank you very much! Measuring from
* Distance between the centre of both 'E' string ball ends: 55.21mm and 55.20mm.
* The 'string' side where the windings start 'E'-'e' : 55.18mm and 55.20mm.
Pretty consistent, suspect any variations are down to the guy operating the verniers

Great! Thank you. So it seems the AVRI units are little wider than the MIJ’s.

So, that’s a very good tip. Like a staytrem! One question comes to me: where can one find Squier 52mm bridges? - only ebay?Lost In Autumn wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2020 5:09 amI've used 9.5" radius mustang saddles with Squier 52mm bridges to good effect, it's the best of both worlds,

No problems.
Most certainly. This is apparent even in photos, you can see the outer strings angle inwards after clearing the bridge on Fender Japan assemblies.bjornsynneby wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 6:37 amSo it seems the AVRI units are little wider than the MIJ’s.
