Mustang Replacement Bridge Screws

Post by roydisco » Sat Oct 10, 2020 8:18 am

Hi all,

Anyone happen to know the size/type of the screw that holds the spring and saddle in place in a mustang bridge? I've somehow managed to just lose one and notice as I've come to restring, god only knows where it is!

It's a 90s Japanese RI, with the comp stripes (60-something I think - not the matching headstock one) if that's any use.

Yep. It will have disappeared into the vortex where guitar picks end up. Only to return once you've purchased a replacement.

Specs are: 4-40 x 5/8, philips head.

From memory the 5/8" length may be ever so slightly shorter than the original screws Fender Japan used, because of...reasons. :)

Depends on whether it's metric or imperial. Given the possibility of bridge swaps (have you had it since new ?), I guess could be either. Imperial would indeed be 4-40, 5/8" (~15.9mm) as stated. Metric would be M3, usually 18mm long (although 16mm often works better). If you're not sure, length of the other screws should tell you. Diameter is closer so harder to distinguish: 4-40 is about 2.8mm, M3 of course 3mm.

My Fender Japan Mustang (MG65) had 4-40 imperial intonation screws that were around 18mm long, so the length won't tell you anything.

i'd recommend getting hex head so you can come from above, otherwise the tailpiece or pickup could get in the way
