Which is the type of Gotoh tuner in the Cobain Jag?

Post by TomBar3 » Fri Nov 20, 2020 5:16 am

Hello,
I had hoped the Gotoh tuners of the Cobain Jag would be of high quality, but they actually feel quite loose when adjusting string tension.
What's the exact type identification of the stock ones? (Gotoh 6 inline)

Thanks!

The are described simply as "KEY GOTOH LOCK CHROME", with the Fender part number 0065657010 ....

Yes, that's what I found too. Yet, I'd like to know the official Gotoh part numer/name/type.
In case of a replacement I then know the correct dimensions.

They are in the SGM series, I think SGM-07 but there are a couple in that series which look pretty similar.
I know this doesn’t give you the exact product code, but hopefully helps.

Would you happen to know underneath which of these three this SGM(-07) would be located?

I found this movie where guy put SG381 MGT on his Cobain (https://g-gotoh.com/product/sg381/?lang=en)

I'm really a newbie at tuners.
I would want to avoid at this stage any tampering/driling of pegholes or mounting screw holes.
So I'd need the angle of the screw, the width of the holes and height of the headstock to be the same.

I couldn’t see them listed on the current Gotoh site, but found them on this old catalogue (page eight):

Seems like quite a few shops still have stock online, just be careful because there are a couple of slightly different styles.

Also, a google image search yields some diagrams with measurements.

I've contacted Gotoh. They believe the new SG361s are used now.

Do you happen to know the appropriate type of screws to use? In case i would loose or damage one?

Fender informed me that they are indeed the Gotoh SGM-07
Odd to stick with this discontinued model...

My upgrade to the SG381 MG-T happened flawlessly.

Hey bud. So you didn’t have to drill or do anything to put in the SG381 MG-T‘s?? I’m looking to upgrade my Cobain too. Ordered Fender locking but worried they won’t align with the existing holes.

If you mean that they feel loose when you turn them, then that’s just a simple matter of tightening the screw. Besides holding the tuner knob in place it also can add tension when tighted.
