Robert Smiths buzz stops for JMs
Somethings telling me the buzz stops are an everyday thing that's in a house or studio. What about this idea!

something similar? just a thought

I guess it will work. If you like the look of it, go for it. I’ve never seen the appeal myself, but then it’s not my guitar.

Regardless of the (lack of) merits of buzzstops, if you were building a 1970s-era Robert Smith replica jazzmaster it would be odd to include the Woolworths middle pickup but not his custom brass buzzstop. But the buzzstop would be made in similar style and dimensions to the real thing on Robert's guitars. We have discussed likely measurements here before. The carpet rod/bracket don't really cut it.

Why would it be weird to include Robert’s middle pickup? That pickup is part of his tone. I’m sure a squire start middle pickup would do the job, although not look so bad.timtam wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 7:38 amRegardless of the (lack of) merits of buzzstops, if you were building a 1970s-era Robert Smith replica jazzmaster it would be odd to include the Woolworths middle pickup but not his custom brass buzzstop. I said it would be odd to include the pickup while omitting the custom buzzstop. That is, you can't have one without the other if you want a true replica. As you say the middle pickup was critical to his tone at the time. And the buzzstop was critical to the look (if nothing else ?).ChrisDesign wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 9:23 amWhy would it be weird to include Robert’s middle pickup? That pickup is part of his tone. Ah, got you. I agree. This is back in the days when vintage guitars were just ‘old guitars’ and jazzmasters were just weird old guitars nobody wanted. They almost asked to be cut up and modded in weird ways.
