Gibson P-90 Pickup
Is there any way to date a Gibson P-90 pickup. I have one that I bought used back in the early 80's. It has a black, dogear cover. I am hoping I can get an accurate date as to when it was made. Also, if the resistance measure shows ok, does that mean it's in good working order. (I'm just wondering if there's a way to tell if it works fine without actually installing it)
Thanks!

Re: Gibson P-90 Pickup
I had a mini Humbucker (which was a Gibson aperently) There was a code printed/stamped on the bottom of the pu, which dated it back to 1980.
And since you can measeru the PU to a acurated resistance, then I'd say it works.
If there is a code you can run it through a specific Gibson site, I'm sure you'll come up witht a date of manufacturing.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. I can't find a code anywhere. Was yours stamped on the bottom of the metal plate?

Yes, It was. Stamped at the bottom of the metal plate. I ran it through Google and found it. (I didn't even now it was a Gibson PU) It sat in a "Law Suit" erea "Heerby" LP special.
Neck Pu was a stock "Maxon" mini HB.

Kewl! I guess that was a nice surprise! I can't find anything on mine. Besides the used one I bought in the 80s, I also have the original one that I removed from my '62 SG Jr. Neither of these P90's have any markings or stamps on them that I can see.

I recommend taking her out for dinner, get to know each other. Don't take things too fast though, you might get slapped.Regan wrote: Is there any way to date a Gibson P-90 pickup.

Northern Dirt, I sure appreciate that, but I don't want you to go to all that trouble......I'm in no big rush and it's not life or death anyway.
