Rubber bridge, huh?

So many other ways to achieve this same effect...
but I guess if you absolutely must have this exact sound and also must have a guitar set up like this all the time...?

Agreed! Does seems a bit frivolous to have one guitar always set up like that but cool sound! Feel Frank Zappa woulda been all over this.
Excellent playing by the way, as well.

Listening to that video through laptop speakers, my first thought is that you could get similar sounds with a regular Jaguar mute.
All pain and troubles melted away like lemon drops beyond the contrails across the sky.

You could get very close... which is what immediately made me furrow my brow
I mean... at the very least, you could swap the mute's foam material to something a bit more dense and get even closer.

I kinda really like it but I question it's usefulness and would never buy one.

I dunno, I think it sounds cool and some of us have a stupid number of guitars, so dedicating one to that sound for the stretch between two string changes isn't that crazy.
Not speaking on a personal level or anything
I could totally see putting one of those bridges on for some songwriting or for a recording session.

For surf only, it'd be cool to have a double necked jag and put a rubber bridge on one neck that's only for muted drips!

Re: Rubber bridge, huh?
Idk its cool but its basically a mute you cant disengage. As others said above, you could probably change the foam on the mute for something more dense and get basically the same sound, with the benefit of being able to disengage it when desired with a flick of a finger.
Any guitar that could take a rubber bridge could also pretty easily have a mute installed, theyre not a jag-only thing. its just a couple holes to drill.
