Classic Player JM pickup baseplate

Post by soul1 » Wed Nov 01, 2023 12:52 pm

Hey all, the Classic Player Jazzmaster stock neck pickup came with a metal baseplate attached to the bottom of the pickup, while the bridge pickup came with two bar magnets.

Does anyone know if the baseplate on the neck pickup is removable in any way? Below is a photo for reference.

I haven‘t the pleasure of holding one of those in my hands… but a quick google pic search shows that exact baseplate on one of the two (neck?) pickups and two separate magnets on the other.

As the Classic Player pickups are basically P90 pickups these must be the magnets (in comparison to the magnet rods on Fender single coil Pickups) - so I‘d strongly recommend to leave the plate(s) in place!

I think I was hoping to maybe replace the metal baseplate with two bar magnets, like the bridge pickup. But it may not be possible.

Phew. This might even be possible. But that‘s a question for somebody else…
What do you hope to achieve? Other type of magnets? Do you want it to be hotter?
