Outer/Inner Coil Wiring Help

Post by thisisnickpaige » Sun Mar 31, 2024 7:05 am

Got this beautiful warmoth build i'm finally getting around to.

Image

Curits Novak WRHBs (4 wire), 1 vol, 1 tone, and a 3 way blade. I'd like it wired traditionally with have a on/off mini toggle for splitting.

Desired Outcome:
Switch off:
1. Bridge Humbucker, 2. Both Humbuckers, 3. Neck Humbucker
Switch on:
1. Both inner coils in parallel , 2. (???????) , 3. Both outer coils in parallel

Thanks, your help is greatly appreciated. ❤️

I think the lack of response is likely due to the complexity (or impossibility) of achieving your desired outcome *with traditional switches*. Each pickup has 4 wires, and the difference of sending the full humbucker, inner coil, and outer coil of each humbucker to the 3-way toggle means a different arrangement of those 4 wires for *each pickup*. Many of us here are familiar with working with 6-pin DPDT switches, and those will likely not cut it in this case. If you're a little bit flexible in the actual controls, then something like this might help you get what you're wanting:

On the other hand, if you're OK with a 5-way switch, you can search for 5-way switch 2 humbucker wiring diagrams and see if something comes close to what you're looking for:

I don't know that you can achieve what you're wanting with a 3-way superswitch either, but I could be wrong.

Beautiful is right... Sonic Blue thinline style Tele with WRHB style pickups is a total winner.

Took so long to decide on a color. It was between this or a sort of light forest green/British racer green. In the end went with this.

Now if only I knew how to wire it…..

The Goldo 3-way superswitch (4P3T) you had originally mentioned in your first post would be the best bet (assuming it fits in the cavity). The mini toggle would select which switch pole gets taken as the output (to the pots).

I don't know man, tough choice, but I think this is (for me) one of those rare cases where Sonic Blue was the right choice and makes the guitar look great over any shade of green.

Wiring is hard, according to my favourite tech who's also a good friend I have the soldering skills of a 5 year old (my guitar did work with swapped pickups for like a decade though so eh) so you can hardly do any worse than me 😂

Well I found this diagram, and it’s almost exactly what I want! However I would like to swap position two and four. I’m painting by numbers here, would you know how to swap the wires properly to swap those two positions but keep the rest?
