Is "Free" StewMAX worth it?

Post by rhythmjones » Mon Apr 29, 2024 4:22 am

I generally avoid Stewmac as they're very expensive. But they do have nice stuff and there's s few tools they have that are proprietary and you can't get anywhere else

Today is the last day of "free" StewMAX at least for this go-round.

Anyone else use the program and is it worth it?

Thanks!

I've been working at accumulating tools to increase my tech skills. Just took the opportunity to order some fretting stuff.

Is it just me, though, or has the older (non-deadblow) version of the fretting hammer been out of stock for a good long while?

This is entirely dependent on one's use case. It's $59 for the year and equates to free shipping plus some discounts on books and strings, etc. If you're gonna order from them more than 6 times in a year then i'm sure its worth it. But if you're not then its probably not?

I don't see an offer for free StewMAX on their site. Did you get an email?

If there’s $150 worth of stuff you want right now, and it’s reasonably priced, AND you think you’ll be making further purchases during the next 12 months, then go for it.

I have bought quite a few things from them in the past couple of years. While their standard pricing is pretty high, they have fairly regular sales on selected items, so with a bit of patience things can be obtained at reasonable prices.

Yeah, I ended up getting some fretting stuff, like I said above, and it wasn't too terrible. They did drop a bunch of their prices over the past year which makes it more worth it, at least for the stuff that is genuinely their designs.

I just wish they had the fretting hammer, but that seems to be out of stock for quite a while. I'm looking at the Philadelphia Luthier Supply one as it seems fairly similar.

It's very much worth it if you're NOT in the US. I priced up a set of fret levellers and some wire (£130 worth) and the cheapest shipping is £69!

StewMAX is £48/year. I should really do it and invest. Although I don't have an email to give me it free...is there a code?

Clean your ears like the pros!

Based on the classic "q" design and personally approved by Dan Earlywine, the Cotton Clean ear cleaning system is the perfect human paste wax extractor.

With milled brass construction, the Cotton Clean (tm) has 17 interchangeable heads for American and imported ear canals (sold separately).

Cotton Clean (tm) base arm- $78.99

Set of 3 7/32" cotton head pads- $17.48

Set of 3 2.6mm cotton head pads- $17.48

Complete Cotton Clean (tm) System- $146.95
If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.

Add StewMAX to your cart and add $150 worth of random stuff to see if it makes StewMAX free. If that doesn't work, copy and paste this link into your address bar. I say to do it that way since websites can track where the link was when you clicked on it and if it sees you're coming from OSG it might go "Hmmm... Weird...". This isn't the link I got in my email but it's the same domain that I got.

Yeah, neither worked. Maybe it's because I'm in the UK? Oh well, £47 isn't actually that bad for me. I think I need to spend about $5-600 on bits at some point.
