Any experience with Fralin Split Jazz pickups?

Post by therizzla » Sat Jun 08, 2024 5:11 pm

My 2006 Jaguar Bass is in the shop getting a NOS Badass II bridge I’ve had for 15 years installed and now I’m wanting to have new pickups installed. I go with Lollar a lot (they’re only three miles from me) but I’m very interested in the Fralin Split Jazz set. The stock output is higher than on a vintage style J pickup, closer to a P-bass pickup which isn’t really a problem but I play it in series mode most of the time and that will increase to output even further still. Anyone have any experience with these pickups they’d care to share? I play mostly alt, grunge and surf styles.

I’m currently thinking a 5% underwound set so I have a cleaner, more vintage tone in Parallel mode that will thicken up when set to series may be the way to go and cover more sonic ground.

Thanks!

I sent Fralin an email and they suggested the 5% underwound set so I guess that's the direction I'm going to go!

late to the game here. but I used to have the 5/10% overwound set and they were better than most hc jazz pups I've used IMO, second only to the Seymour Duncan apollo.

I found the overwound set lost some highs but I was able to get some back by running 500k pots all around. I still found the bridge pup to be quieter than the the neck, so would recommend you get the bridge at stock or ever 5% overwound relative to your 5% underwind neck pup.
