it's true. not only that - all the guitars with the adjust o matic have the wrong radius!

sorry -- i should clarify - any guitar with an adjustomatic bridge and a vintage radius neck - 7.25" radius - would be off - like the J Mascis and T Moore sigs...

what radius neck are you using for your build - you may be ok....

Are you telling me the 12'' radius of the Adjust-o-Matic / Tune-o-Matic bridge would fit on a 9.5'' radius neck? (Like the new Fender Classic Player Jaguar HH)?

it would be BETTER, but not perfect....
the radius being off drove me nuts as i went up in string gauge...

The classic player offsets have a 9.5 radius and so does the adjustomatic.
so the radius isn't off on those guitars.

I decided to do a similar mod to use the tune-o-matic without drilling the guitar.

Bought some 8mm brass rod - cut off two 1 inch strips, then tapped them out to take the screw on a tune-o-matic.

Pop them in, fits real nice. Then adjust the tune-o-matic bridge to the 7.25 radius by filing down each E string. Drop in, adjust for fine tuning - complete.

Sounds and looks great, a minimal cost and no damage.

don't think i ever posted a pick of my TMJM w/ this mod and the Graphtech saddles installed.....so, here you go....

Here's one elegant solution to the problem of installing a DECENT bridge (I mean FLOATING, the only way to go with the Jazzmaster's tremolo system) on a Classic Player Jazzmaster:

-Get yourself a genuine Jazzmaster bridge (the string spacing is wider on a Mustang bridge than on the Adjust-O-Matic, making the higher E string go too close to the frets edge, the Jazzmaster bridge allows for adjustment).

-Pry the Adjust-O-Matic thimbles out of the guitar body, easily done pulling on posts.

-Using a column drill make two 27/64in. holes in a section of 2X4 pine then place the thimbles very straight in the holes.

-Re-bore the Adjust-O-Matic thimbles with a fresh, high-quality metric 9mm bit, going PROGRESSIVELY so as to avoid over-heating (VERY, VERY important!!!). Cool down wit a water jet if possible, otherwise wait till cooled.

-Gently push the newly acquired Jazzmaster bridge thimbles in the re-bored Adjust-O-Matic thimbles (DO NOT FORCE THEM!!!).

-Now place thimbles back on guitar body, install bridge, some good 11 gauge strings, set all up, et voilà!

CONCLUSION: you now have something that is very close to an AVRI, with the bonus of a flatter radius, strings that DO NOT jump out of saddles (thanks to the Classic Player's increased string angle), hotter pickups, and a much nicer price tag...! AND you did not have to drill the guitar body itself, so the whole operation is reversible (yet, who would want to go back?).You can go buy yourself a nice bridge-guard with the money you just saved...!

It was the same on my Jag HH special: 7,5 radius with a 12 or 9,5 bridge...
I never bond with the guitar and when i discovered that , i sold it

I think is understandable whitout french notion, the advantage is keeping original parts and thimbles on place.. just pu a m4 to m8 adapter in, got the good radius, maybe a neck shimming and it's done..

What was the fingerboard radius of the mustang/jagstang you put the tune-o-matic on?

How do you like the way it plays now?
