Jazzmaster pickup comparison

Post by Green angel » Sun Feb 21, 2010 7:57 am

I've began a pickup comparison 6 month ago and I would like to share it with you.
Hope it will help you to choose between this plethoric offer.

Gear used:
Guitar = a stock 2003 AVRI Jazzmaster except the pickups
Amp = Engl E660, Clean channel.
Cab = NOS 4*12 vintage 30 speakers
no effects
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AHYYncaOy4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

For the moment I've made samples with:
AVRI set (Clean and bright)
Curtis Novak JM-V (well balanced and midranged), JM-Fat (powerfuller strat pickup), JM-T (bridge Telecaster pup for JM), JM-WR (Widerange Hbs) and JM-Paf (PAF Hbs)
Jason Lollar vintage (clean and full)
Seymour Antiquity I (Soft and acoustic) antiquity II (full and high ends)
Stock japanese pickup (thin and bright)
Engine pickups vintage (So dynamics)
Micros Kami custom set (clean and pure neck pickup, powerfull and fat bridge pup)
GFS Hot (INCANDESCENT)
SP Custom Jazzmister 62 : IMO the closest pup to have the 62/65 Jazzmaster tone

I miss:
Lindy Fralin
David Barfuss
GFS
What Else??

I add those excellent samples by mtotallywired!!

Thought i'd add to this sticky here. Just recently converted from a set of Antiquity II's which I loved to Novak JM-V's...the differences between the two are slight, still, both are very authentic. Borrowed Green Angel's format here, although with a different guitar + amp. the soundclips are below, so you be the judge of which set's best for your needs!

wow! Impressive.

Tips for other pickups:
Pickup Wizard JM pickups (they have a couple of choices IIRC - look on ebay)
SD standard range (SJM-1 (Vintage), SJM-2 (Hot) and SJM-3 (QP))

:)
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?
