wraparound tune-o-matic?

Post by mynameisjonas » Wed Oct 06, 2010 2:31 am

does anyone know if there is a wraparound bridge that can be used as drop in replacement for a tune-o-matic (i.e. narrower post spacing than a normal wraparound)?

Who ordered the reacharound? :D

Seriously, it seems like there almost HAS to be such a thing available. I've been in a situation where just such a bridge would've been exactly what I needed for a project. We can't be the only two guys who have wanted this. Keep looking, I'll do the same, we'll share discovery.

if there isn't one available, i'm thinking you *might* be able to drill string holes through the base of a locking tune-o-matic... not sure if there's enough room though.

sounds interesting...the only problem I think is the string pull...the studs that hold the TOM bridge would probably bend, I think...

that's why I don't think there is such a thing...

I'd just enlarge the stud holes to standard Les Paul/SG width and use this:

it's not really what you are looking for, though, I guess :(

if you use ABR-1 or nashville, yes, but the large post ones should be able to take the force. they're only slightly thinner than the stop bar screws.

It's also the design/shape of the post screws you need to consider. On a stoptail or a Pigtail, like Zhivago posted, the studs that hold it in the body hold it above the tailpiece, as well as supporting it from underneath. A regular TOM on the other hand, just has the posts coming up supporting it underneath, and nothing on top to keep the bridge from flying off your guitar, or slowly vibrating out of position.

well, the plans are just hypothetical at the moment (still hoping for an existing product), but if there's enough room for the holes i might try it some day.

i just i checked with a TOM i had lying around, and it looks like it would be pretty darn tricky finding room for any holes... :-/

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm curious about doing the same thing. After reading a few similar threads on other forums, most people rubbished the idea and didn't even get why someone would want to do it!

This is why I like OSG ;) more open minded here.

So I have a Yamaha AES620 which has a TOM with a string through body and I'm curious about going for a wrap around for the tonal/sustain benefits. Also I'm curious and I like to MOD ;)

Is my only option to re-drill holes where the TOM is? Or has anyone finally made a wrap around to drop into a TOM?

I just stumbled upon this and remembered this old thread.

Looks to be exactly what I was looking for. Don't really need one now, but it's nice to know it exists. :)

It's a Duesenberg. It's featured on their Senior model, although that might be the standard spacing wraparound (they make both).
