Thomastik-Infeld Strings

String topics have probably been done to death on the forum, and I know that string choice can be a matter of taste, but I,ve managed to find a local source(Sydney Aust) of Thomastic Infeld BeBop Jazz BB112(12's) roundwound strings, and boy, I can,t give them a high enough rap for use with a JM. Pricey but well worth it.
Anyone else give them a try.

I have a set on right now, and I am super satisfied. What I like most about them is that, compared to other 12's they seem much lighter - the Pyramids 11's feel like 13's in comparison.

For the last 3 years, I've used their 13 flatwounds on my Jaguars, and I'm pretty much spoiled for life. Only broke one string in all that time, which was an apparently defective A string that wouldn't stop stretching, and I don't strum or pick gently.

I'm hoping the price is really true economy as they claim-cost twice as much, last three times as long.

have flat 14s on, which are a funny guage as they are almost a 12 set with heavier top strings so they are lot louder considering wound g tend to already have this problem. was supposed to buy 12s however.
sound like the best flats i've tried, ringing and sustaining when played that way, and yet sound the most like the percussive flatwounds at the same time, a lot more character than d'addarios. although lack some behind the bridge sounds as they have cloth winding covers.

I'm after the bebop set next, which will end up in about three months if claims are true. might finally settle on one set of strings, well at least one flat set and one round set..

I use them almost exclusively now:
Jazz Swing 12s on my Jazzmaster and Jazz Swing 13s on my Jaguar.
I've also got a set of BeBop 12 roundwounds here but I haven't tried them yet.

They are really great strings. To my ear the string balance (volume wise) is better than the Pyramid Golds.
I also like the fact, that the string tension is very even from string to string, so they're really comfortable to play.

When you buy Thomastik strings, you should use one gauge heavier than you normally use because all other sting (but the high e) are of somewhat lighter gauge.

I absolutely love them on my epi bigsby casino, miles better compared to pyramids (IMHO).
I thought they (the TI's) sounded a little thin on my jaguar though. But I now prefer fender roundwounds on that guitar now anyway, so YMMV...

Edit: just realized the thread is about TIs in general, I was talking about TI flats...

I use thomastik infeld 11-47 flat wound jazz strings on one of my jags (AV) and it just has that tone for delicate solos when we record.

Good to know, I was thinking of putting them on my Epi Dot Super VS. Tempted to try the 13,s, as the heavier I can handle, the more the Semi seems to come to life.

Fisonic, you should definitely give it a try. I am not sure if its just me, but the Thomastics 12's I've got on right now feel the same (or even lighter) than the Pyramids 11s, so those 13s should not be too hard to handle.

The bass side strings on Thomastiks tend to be a bit lighter than average.

Yes, this is absolutely true. They're also really unique in construction... a double-layer wound design. Unwind an offcut from a low "E" sometime from the .013 or .012 set and you'll see what I'm talking about. A solid core, an inner winding, and then another layer of winding over that. Probably contributes to the somewhat unique feel/sound.[/quote]

I seem to have kept some of those offcuts from the last string change, so I checked that - cool stuff

However, in terms of feel, I still prefer the Pyramids.
