Jaguar Mute 'mounting screws' ??

Post by OffYourFace » Wed Jan 23, 2008 7:25 pm

Can someone describe what the Mounting Screws for the mute look like?  or post pics?  I just scored a vintage mute & a bridge cover on ebay.  Are the similar to the pickup screws?

so they're just like the vibrato mounting screws?  i didn't think they'd be that big...  or do they just 'look' like them?

yes and yes  (the top one)

infact the bottom type screw would also work....  as  long as it is a  "5 gauge" screw

The mute plate screws on my '65 Jag are round head screws.

yeah ???????????????  correct trem screws are  "oval head/counter sunk, phillips head" .... are you sure your description of "round" should not be "oval"  .... if they are in fact "round" are they countersunk ?

I take it this top screw applies to all eras including early 60s ?

I'd love to know the same info for a '64 mute's centre screw, nut, washer as well if anyone has it .....
I take it from this photo that the length is approximately 3 x the head diameter.

Info re. new vs. vintage new Fender parts here: viewtopic.php?t=19324
i.e. screws etc

Edit: just checked the description on a new set of screws here:
https://www.angela.com/fenderjazzmaster ... ofone.aspx
their page says:
.755" long overall, .218" diameter screw head. Brand New. Genuine Fender 0056156000

I quickly translated that to be 19.2mm, if anyone is looking to get these
Also, 6.5mm = .26"

FYI - Link to Fender's patent for the Mute over in this thread viewtopic.php?f=7&t=116759
