another JM project

I've wanting to build a JM for a while and have been looking at parts manufactures.Unless I've overlooked something,the only one that does custom routing to order is Warmoth.An alder body plus finish is going to run around $400.I see Jagmasters selling for $250 brand new.A better neck,maybe some hardware upgrades and humbucker sized single coil pups ie.Fat Bastards would get me very close to what I had in mind.I guess my question is are the jagmaster bodies going to similar in quality to the other companies?From what I've read they are real alder as opposed to basswood.

Yeah, they are real Alder bodies, at least the second generation was.  I've been doing a heavily modded Jagmaster project myself:




I'd offer to do you a custom-routed Jazzmaster body myself, but I'm not gonna be in the shop to do any guitar-building in the next month at least.  I figure you don't want to wait that long.

And the Jagmaster necks aren't really that bad.  They're pretty thin, the fingerboard radius is a little on the flat side, and the tuners are die-cast, but otherwise, they're all right.  For mine, I'm just rounding over the fingerboard edges a little and that's it.

Thanks for the input.I let a really nice Warmoth JM slip away on ebay a week or two ago(the Lake Placid Blue with Lollars) and now I've got the hots for one.I had a 63 model a few years ago and like a dummy sold it.I f the Jagmaster project does'nt get off the ground I just may take you up on the routing option .BTW I'm I correct in that Warmoth is the only parts supplier that will rout to order?

I thought USACG did custom routed bodies and stuff too.  But, there's bound to be someone else here who knows for sure.

USACG and Guitarmill both offer custom routed bodies.

A few more questions....If I replace the stock (short scale ) neck with a Strat style neck is this going to present any problems?Also,are the stock pups F-spaced or standard?And finally,I'd really like to use true JM pups rather than HB sized p-90's.Has anyone tried this?
