Well Brian May's Red Special was oak. It works really well for my Amp cab, it's very resonant. Visually, it's very similar to Ash, and actually I think it would sound somewhat like that.

The  only hitch with the Oak body is he used two dowels in the neck pocket for registration, I don't know how flat the pocket would be. Might have to re-rout it for depth. We like our pockets CLEAN (see other thread). :) You never know though. :)

Well, yeah, I can understand that, but for maximum resonance, you really want a uniform, 1/4-5/16" thick top. The top the way it is, probably wouldn't alter the tone all that much, other than to kill the sustain. Which, if we're using a jig to do the top, wouldn't be all that  difficult to reverse it for the inside of the top. I guess we're just meticulous.

well, no, i really just didn't know that. Makes a lot of sense tho. I've never even owned a semi-hollow. More sustain sounds like a must! :)
