Re: Mooncaster Project
Looks awesome! Green is a tricky color to stain (in my experience), and you're pulling it off. It's looking better to me than the PRS.
Without music, life would be a mistake.

Re: Mooncaster Project
It has a little bit of that Epiphone Coronet Silver Fox look that I've always loved.

Re: Mooncaster Project
First coat of clear went on the front of back today. I am hand wiping tung oil on it.

Looking good!
When you purchased the body were the bridge and tail pieces pre-drilled or did you have to do that yourself?

Re: Mooncaster Project
The bridge and tailpiece holes were drilled by warmoth, but I had to enlarge them to fit my specific bridge and stop tail thimbles. I used a scrap piece of wood to drill some different holes and test fit the thimbles in that before using the best hole size on the body with my drill press. The stock holes were too small for what I had. Once the holes were good, I used my plastic mallet to tap the thimbles in.

Re: Mooncaster Project
The back is done. Not gloss mirror, but a nice hand rubbed tung oil glow.

The front. Not perfect, but all hand rubbed.

Re: Mooncaster Project
Decal applied. When clear goes on, it should blend better.

Re: Mooncaster Project
Took the decal off. It just wasn't looking good with the darker background. It wasn't clearing up for whatever reason. Naked headstock it is!

Re: Mooncaster Project
Been fighting with this project a lot. The true oil has been horrible to work with on the body. Streaky and then junk in the finish I sand or scrape out. It is driving me nuts. I think I finally have it where I am ok with it. Even the tuners didn't want to go on perfect. The angled 70's style backs didn't line up evenly so it makes the tuning pegs a little unevenly spaced. I have seen vintage and modern Fender necks worse than this, but I try to do better. LOL

Here are the tuners. Really hard to get them perfectly straight. LOL

Re: Mooncaster Project
My mom suggested I fix the black spot in the F hole by dying the inside black, so I carefully poured dye in the neck pickup route which connects to that side and tilted it around until it was coated. Seems to have worked. Also the custom neck plate came for it.

Re: Mooncaster Project
I never understood why f-holes were always bare... Black, bright colors, contrasting colors... I'm all for that. So that's a very welcome custom job on yours.
