I love the look of every aspect of that instrument. The way the pieces of wood came together on the back of the neck is so cool. And the grain filling technique you used looks like a super shiny gloss nitro finish in the photos you posted. Not sure how it feels, but from a visual perspective, the neck definitely looks "done". I'm also partial to brown pickguards so I support the Garolite choice and I'll throw in another vote for lipsticks.

Thanks guys,

It's good from afar, but far from good. There's plenty of mistakes in there... just out of focus.

Anti, I like the idea of the Dano-style rear mounting. I noticed a few guitars with the screws on back while looking at Dano's for pickup ideas. I think if I go that route, I definitely need to mock it up on a piece of poplar first. It may be a tale of two pickguards - one traditional, one lipstick until I get the rear mount figured out. An aside, but I have a thing for Dano pickguard screws - which I cannot seem to source. I think I have seen them described as a truncated, truss head, phillips - like a normal truss head, but a portion of the top flattened. They sit on top of the pickguard, not countersunk.

SM - Wow! can't believe I missed that white Duo/Musicamaster at Mike & Mike's in the last photo. Been pondering something similar in a Mary Kay white and brown pickguard for awhile now. Lot's of rabbit holes in this guitar project which really began as a lark.

Freshly applied resin sure is a tease isn't it. It's all been sanded with 320 now and awaiting one last coat before lacquer. Going to use gloss nitro, just to get a look, and then probably knock it back to satin. At 320 It has a pretty good feel. Epizootics graciously shared his experience with me on treating a neck with CA glue and I did experiment with it just in case it worked well as a final finish. In the end I chose the resin because it had a slightly better feel to the hand than the CA when sanded back - although both work equally well.

Gotta get to work. Thanks for the kind comments.

Regards,

Mark

added tilt back legs and piggyback hardware to a 2x10 pine convertible cabinet to mate with my 6g2 princeton circuit! i think this idea is elegant, industrial, and genius. thx, fender.

there’s not a lot of instruction on how to do this, but i used a combo of aesthetics and desired tilt angle to set the legs right at 35 degrees back. tolex/vinyl is cut, should finish next weekend.

bits needed: 3/16” for the leg bolts, 1/8” for the leg stop screws, 7/16” big chungus for the piggyback thimbles on top. the plates attach with t-nuts inside the head cabinet, more bolts, and some spring steel to keep those plates in place. beautiful.

Wrapping up my vintage inspired 22.5" Duo, I just need to do the final shape and polish on the nut.
I used a custom set of strings from Stringjoy, based on their Nashville set, but adjusted to account for the short scale (.028w-.022w-.015-.0095-.015-.011). This thing is super jangly!

Thanks! I used Molotow Belton paint on this one again. This is their "Burgundy" color. Dakota was my goal and I think this comes pretty close.

It looks great and a good shade of dakota (which has many shades as I've found over the years).

Thanks everybody!

Aside from the body contours, the Jazzmaster headstock shape, and the modded Toronado bridge, this one is pretty close to vintage spec. The pickups are 2/3 of a set out of a MIJ reissue strat model from the mid 80s, so those are 35 years old. I haven't babied this thing during assembly either, so it already has a few dings and scrapes.
