NGD: Why didn’t anyone tell me how frickin’ amazing the Jaguar is?!?!?

Post by Norrin Radd » Thu Jun 30, 2022 12:16 pm

I finally put together a Jag after many other partscasters - Strats, Teles and JMs. Don’t know why I waited so long - maybe the hesitation was a product of being unfamiliar with the 24” scale, IDK. In any event, I finally decided I’d had enough of putting together other models - seemed like the logical next step.

So I went about acquiring all of the parts over the last 6-10 months (most of that was waiting on the neck - ordered from Musikraft and from there shipped to MJT for finishing). Finally secured the last piece a few days ago (the Mastery string tree - why? Got a new job and thought - what the hell - why not!

Assembly was a new challenge- one I didn’t want to conquer by attempting to do ALL of the wiring/soldering myself, so I ordered a harness on Reverb - and I’m really glad I did! There’s a lot more going on under the hood than on your average Strat or Tele! I also did the same with my JM builds - the extra cost compared to the parts by themselves is worth not having the frustration of me trying to solder in those tight spaces. I can solder OK but I’m no pro (my stubby Shrekesque fingers don’t help matters either!). All that channeling…I digress. :fp:

So below is a horrible picture of my new Shaguar. I am in love! Not because it’s new or I'm in the Honeymoon phase - I know what that is and this ain’t it. But because - OMG! - the growl. Yup. The GROWL. I’ve not played a guitar that sounds like this before - I’m sure the pickups help - man do I love them!!! And I’m finding uses for ALL of the switching options - and finding true appreciation for the strangle switch. I feel like this guitar truly is “versatile”. Way more so than I thought or expected.

I had what I thought were wiring issues - weird stuff happening on the rhythm channel. After grounding the plate though - all is right in the world and working properly. And oh my god the tones! Oh yeah - covered that. ;D

Yeah - just a standard Fender mint green. I wanted to go with a Spitfire green tort - but the wallet said: “No!”

That is beautiful. Love that color. Doesn’t seem like LPB buy is fantastic whatever you call it.

That’s great. I’m particularly impressed with how dead-on the headstock and body are Sounds like MJT matched the body color. If so they did a superb job.

It’s not a perfect match, but on mid-60’s Jag there’s going to be some difference.

Nice! I might get a Spitfire or a Decoboom pickguard for my Musikraft/MJT Jazzmaster build or I may just use an anodized gold. If the anodized gold doesn't work, a Spitfire Crazy '60s Vintage Faded Orange would be my second choice.

I wish I could have gotten on with the 24" scale (curse of being 203cm tall, I suppose), because the tone of my Jaguar was magical.

The guitar looks fantastic just the way it is - don’t ever put tort on it.

i avoided jags forever and am mad about it. now it’s the guitar I play the most, AND i keep skinny 10 gauge strings on it. that color and pickguard are just spectacular together.

Beautiful guitar!

Where did you order the neck?

I didn't see the radius on the spec sheet?

Yep, more guitars should come in a dark blue! It seems weirdly rare and it's one of my favourite colours.

Coincidentally, I got my first Mustang, and it was in LPB last month, and got my first Jag (in Shell Pink) yesterday. I always assumed the scale length would be too short on these, but of course I was wrong. But I had no idea the little Jag would be so big and heavy. That is the one thing I don't like about it. Thankfully I play bass, so it's not excessively heavy to me.
