It really is a very elegant shape... :-*
Thank you very much!

---

I weighed it this morning and it is a hair under 9lbs. The original ash blank was at least 14lbs though, so I'm pretty happy that it isn't heavier. 9lbs is surely at the high end of my desired weight range, but just like with the prototype Basswood Orion, it's valuable to know how I can use the heavier (or lighter) pieces of wood, and the results to expect. It's already nice to know that the next one can easily be around 8lbs with a lighter piece of base wood. Some natural finished wood like Mahogany (or Walnut :w00t: ) would look awesome with pretty much any finish on top

Anyway, between the super dense ash body and all of the chambering, there is tons of sustain and resonance. I ordered a custom set of strings (68-44-32-20w-14-11) this morning, in order to get more consistent string tension between strings, as well as a slightly better bridge, since this one has too wide of spacing. The neck is 24.75", 12" radius BTW.

Here's a closer view of the Lisa Frank sticker top for your enjoyment:

The more you post these, the more I see a Tele version & a P90 /JM vibrato version in my future…
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

I'm the same, but with a Firebird pickup-equipped guitar...

I love it when a plan comes together.

Here's the wiring. 4-way switch, 250k volume with a Kinman treble bleed, 250k tone with a 0.022uf cap, and a 3-way bass cut mini-toggle. Despite the copper shielding and the aluminum pickguard and control plate, I used shielded wire wherever I could, and it is very silent.

I rarely think of belly contours as being parts of the aesthetics of an instrument, but in this case it looks as slick and elegant as the rest of the guitar. :)

Thank you! I really tried to be thoughtful about every possible element, even the ones that usually don't get seen. My rear roundover radius is 5/8", and I try to maintain that along the contour, to create a super smooth transition. That contour is deep and taking just a few minutes to work that edge makes it that much more comfortable.

So, these mfd pickups are like, really, really good and stuff. Everything I read about them being full spectrum is true, the bass switch is so much more effective here than in say a Jaguar, because these have more bass. They aren't muddy at all though, because they have plenty of treble too, but they aren't ice picky. There's just more tones. The neck and bridge are each distinct in their own way too. My dirt pedals like them a lot. This Leo Fender guy knew what he was doing. Oh, and they sound even better with some subtle warble from an offset vibrato ;) .

That sounds awesome. Pickups that are full range/balanced in that way are great.

Any chance of a sound demo? 8)

Same! I would love to hear what they sound like too!

Being full-range, how do you think they'd work as a baritone or Bass VI pickup?

I don't have a recording setup currently, but there are some good demos of ASAT specials out there. G&L uses this construction for multiple formats of pickups, which all reportedly sound great, so I'm sure they would work great in anything. The S500 pickups would probably fit a Bass VI with no or little mods, or their ASAT classic (tele format) mfd pickups should easily drop into a tele baritone.

Gorgeous design/guitar! Those ASAT pickups look killer on there too.

I don’t have those particular pickups, but my Doheny has their JM MFD pickups along with their PTB wiring and I absolutely love the tones. Very Hi-Fi in a very cool way. They remind me of 90% JM and 10% almost Filtertron-ish type tones.

FYI #1, G&L does sell Doheny pickups in their store now. Those are supposed to be voiced to be jangly, while my Jumbos are supposed to be punchy/twangy like a tele/P90 hybrid.

FYI #2: The jumbos will also fit under a blank JM cover with custom drilled pole piece holes.

Then, the previously mentions S-500 pickups are a strat form factor and so should fit Jaguar routes (I haven't verified this)

So, there's three pretty easy options for curious people to try out mfd pickups with an offset vibrato.
